Randomly picked a “Techeticles” at Total Wine in Dallas last weekend because I got a kick from the label, and I really liked the beer. Took a look at Beer Advocate, and lots of their beers get good marks.

Thoughts on their beers? This was the first time I ever saw any of them in Texas. Where can one usually find them in Dallas or Houston?

Craft beer cellar gets their stuff too. They had DDH cocodrie a few weeks back. Good stuff.

I like their beers for what they are. I've heard multiple folks say that while not having the overall best beer lineup out of the LA microbrews, they certainly have the best taproom atmosphere. I'm admittedly a bit biased because they're located in my hometown.

My family actually owns a bit of land ON Bayou Teche, a bit further south, so I thought it would be fun to bring some of the Teche beers to the next family function.

Recommendations?

I'm personally a fan of the Ragin' Cajuns ale. It has sort of a sweet finish IMO and is pretty light for drinking in heat. If you like Mexican style beers, the Cinco de Bayou is not bad as well.

They started off rough the first few years of beer making, but they’ve revamped some recipes and have come out with some new brews too that are awesome.

The new Techeticles is on par with Lagunitas Waldo triple IPA, and Brass Techeticles (17% 4IPA) is waayy too smooth for its potency.

Cocodrie and Ragin Cajun has popped up at a local place in Houston. RC isn’t anything special, but it’s a great crawfish boil beer. Just wish they’d put it in cans for that purpose alone.

As for the people and establishment, Parish brews better beers as a whole, but I’d rather hang out on premises at Bayou Teche.

I've never been to Parish but I'll say making the trip to Bayou Tech Brewing is 100% worth it. We went for the first time a few weeks back and will certainly be back, big open area, tons of seating, I believe they have bands playing every Saturday and Sunday, wood fired pizzas are killer. We will certainly make a trip back.

I recently went to a craft beer festival in Shreveport and the Swamp Thing IPA was one of my favorites that I had that day out of the probably 50 beers I tried.

I would still love (hate?) to try or smell that anniversary Persimmon Sour that reportedly had notes of vomit and/or cheese.

I've had a lot of bad beers. That is right up there with one of the worst I've ever encountered.

They had a rough start but turned it around and are brewing some really solid stuff these days. Similar story to Tin Roof in that regard.

I think moreso it's embarrassing that Texas gets our good beers but nothing comes our way from Texas.

They're releasing a rather interesting IPA called Big Fatty along with this glass on 4/20.

I do plan to be there to get one of these glasses.

Are you talking about the Velvet Techeticles that they had last month for the 10th anniversary? I had one and was probably one of the worst beers I've ever had. It was 23%ABV, looked like a super hazy IPA, tart, overly sweet, and had a horrible aftertaste. Quite disappointing at $15/pour but hey, I got a commemorative glass.
