Battle of Louisiana Food Magazines

I get both Louisiana Cookin' and Louisiana Kitchen magazines. I like them both and I think there's a place for both. Kitchen is brand new. Only two issues out, so far. I've subscribed to Cookin' since it started or shortly thereafter.
I received an email from Kitchen this morning that goes much like the message on their website.

It appears the publisher of Cookin' is complainin'. The publisher is Hoffman Media in Alabama. I don't much care about the legalities nor do I know if Cookin' suddenly saw a drop in sales they can directly relate to Kitchen's name. I doubt it. I like both of these and on the surface, this looks like a cheesy move. However, one of the owners of Kitchen was previously the editor of Cookin', but that was several years ago.
Anyway, the magazines are at war!

as if we needed another reason to hate Bama...
i received that same email today. just started my subscription to Louisiana Kitchen; as a matter of fact, just received my first issue this week. really enjoyed looking at it so far. i've had a couple of email exchanges and a phone call with one of the people associated with the magazine; seemed like a really nice guy. I hope they are successful.
i had a subscription to the other one years ago; mom got it for me as a gift. enjoyed it but they never sent me a renewal so when it ran out, that was it...
funny thing is i would have gladly renewed it if they had just sent me the form.

Yes, my dealings with Kitchen have been very helpful and personable. I ordered a lot of gift subscriptions for Christmas gifts. There was a holdup in the first publication, but they straightened it all out and I dealt with several people when I ordered and since.
I've never had an issue with the folks at Cookin' either, but I haven't dealt with anyone there in a long time and they've had a changing of the guard since I have, so I don't know what it's like with the new publisher.
A few days before Katrina, I realized I'd missed an issue of Cookin', so I called them to inquire about it. They said they'd send one to me. Katrina hit and I didn't think about it again. About a month later, I received the magazine with a note that it was in the office on top of a filing cabinet in an envelope ready to be mailed and was one of the few things in tact when they finally got back to the office which suffered broken windows and heavy damage, apparently. Nice. I still have that issue in the envelope it was in when Katrina hit.
I hope the new publishers give this up and move on. Both mags are good.

Now that is a great story...

I was shocked when the magazine arrived and I read the note. Stunned, even, along with being very impressed. I wrote a thank you note to them.

Is John Folse somehow affiliated with Cookin??

To my knowledge, Folse has never been associated with Cookin'. He could have been a contributing writer before, but other than that, I've never seen anything indicating an association. I believe it was locally owned and published until the Alabama outfit became involved. It's a good magazine, but if I have to pick to keep one of them alive, I'm going with Kitchen. I liked Cookin' better than the Kitchen gal was involved with it.
