Restaurant 1796 at The Myrtles in St. Francisville. It’s on a beautiful property, and I really like the smell of the wood fired grill.

Along the line of small, locally owned spots (like Elsie’s), try Jasmine on the Bayou, or Cecilia or Cocha downtown. Umami near LSU has good sushi if looking for that. If Italian, throw Nino’s into the mix. Also second the recommendation for Lagnaippe for seafood, French Market Bistro has a nice vibe and food (same owners as Mansur’s).

the food isnt the best but it has a pretty good atmosphere with lots of regulars and stout drinks
