Not certain prices will decrease, but crawfish should be plentiful. Fields in Vermilion Parish are looking good. Carbide guns working overtime.

The only thing that really affects crawfish prices is the price of the labor that you have to use to harvest them. Labor prices aren’t going down anytime soon.

My go to fisherman ran 25 traps this morning. His catch wasn’t worth the investment to sell crawfish right now. He said to check back in 2 weeks since it’s to early for him to sell crawfish

This is a standard crawfish thread on TD
Bunch of shite talking from a bunch of know nothings that think the price of crawfish in Nola or Houston is set by a crawfish farmer in Basile or Gueydan

Price is $4 to the farmer right now - expect it to be under $3 by end of Jan

I was in Gueydan for Christmas visiting family. They are excited about the crawfish crop. It should be much better than last year’s.

Hardly anyone uses illegals
95% are H2A - $14.83/hour plus a house and vehicle is the pay

That’s funny. 20 yrs ago one was in court and they asked him what he did and he crawfished. Asked if he’d be back to court at a certain date he said yes but barely spoke English. He wasn’t showing back up and they knew it. They most certainly use illegals. Not saying they all do but many do.

Nice anecdotal evidence from a totally different era of the crawfish industry to try to prove something you’re totally wrong on

You think H2A workers speak English or never go back to Mexico? Your story is dumb and doesn’t even prove he was illegal

Labor, cost of fish, land rent, repairs like every other industry. There’s many variables not just labor

This comment right here is an example why TD is clueless when it comes to crawfish. Majority of labor is legal visa holding immigrants. Get educated on the whole industry before you make baseless claims.

Nobody ever said this
You claimed that the crawfish industry didn’t have to worry about labor costs since they higher illegals. 2 people who no doubt know 100x more about the industry said this is not true yet you are still trying to argue with us
