Asparagus... why do you taste so good yet smell so bad?

Asparagus contains a specific acid called "asparagustic acid" - really - why didn't they get original or something. you may better know it as 1,2-dithiolane-4-carboxylic acid with the chemical formula - C4H6O2S2 (4 carbons, 6 hydrogens, 2 oxygens and 2 sulfur atoms.

The sulfur in the acid is where the problems com from. The body quickly converts the acid into several sulfur containing compounds that are similar to the odor of garlic or skunk spray. I looked them up to be sure. They include dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, dimethyl sulfoxide and dimethyl sulfone. All of these sulfur containing compounds

1 - smell bad

2 - are highly volatile, come right out of your urine and straight up to your nose.

They are also similar to the volatile organics they put into natural gas to make it have such a distinctive smell.

Smells like shite, taste like shite.

I also do not suffer from the asparagus stinky piss.....good stuff

I eat asparagus just to smell my pee

I like the smell of my asparagus pee.

Perhaps your asparagus pee is just not as pleasant as my asparagus pee.

Or sautéed in a pan for 7 minutes with olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes.. and salt and pepper.
