Anyone spend way too much on an espresso setup?

I already have too many coffee contraptions at the house, but what's one more?

I'm looking at a setup for under $1000 and here's what I've found so far:

Gaggia Classic Pro, $450 (in chrome, black as pictured is $499)

Baratza Sette 270, $399

And probably a VST basket to go in the Gaggia's portafilter, $30.

Is there a better setup than this for under a grand? Is it worth saving up and getting to the next level? General thoughts? I was a little discouraged because I started reading coffee/barista forums and the enthusiasts there can't help but give into budget creep. It got to the point where some poor guy asked for a newbie setup and they say stuff like "my basic entry level setup runs around $5200" (a real post that I read, no exaggeration)

I'm probably going to pull the trigger on a Breville Barista Pro.

I’ve been looking too - I like the Breville

But I’m not sure ... I have every single kind of coffee thing - but mostly usually the drip bc I drink a lot of it

It's going to sound dumb, but I feel like the Breville products take the fun out of making shots. I've never even used one, but seeing them be used just gives me Keurig vibes the way you press a single or double button and coffee comes out, the "computer" feeling of them, etc. I don't know how exactly to describe it, I just feel like I want a more "manual" feel, even though the Breville is a fantastic machine.

Which one are you looking at? I feel like the Pro model has more a manual feel (e.g., you grind the beans and then tamp and trim the portafilter). Are you looking for more water temp/amount control?

Get a good conical burr grinder and an aeropress. Excellent espresso for the money.

I looked at the Bambino Plus and the Pro. Does the Pro have manual mode where you have to turn the water on and off for the pour? Or are the options single/double only?

I'm also not a huge fan of the LCD screen type stuff. It's probably petty, but I like the old school feel of flipping the switch and having to keep track of all the variables myself. It's like driving stick vs automatic to me.

I have a Bodum burr grinder and 2 Aeropresses already. They make great coffee but technically not espresso because it doesn't get to 9 bars. I told you I was obsessed

I am just wrapping up a kitchen renovation and looking for a coffee / espresso combo. I think I will pull the plug on this one but was hoping for something a tad bigger. Is there a better option out there? Any thoughts?

No, I get it. One of the reasons why I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet is that I'm still learning, and trying to decide just how much effort I want to put into the process.

Appartamento? That's probably what I'd upgrade to as my buy once cry once option, if I decide to skip the Gaggia. How do you like it?

It’s a Cellini Evolutione . It was an upgrade from a Starbucks branded Saeco. I love the fact that it’s hard plumbed on the supply end. The machine itself is built like a tank. Repeatable shots. Steam for days. I can’t really imagine much more from a machine .

It’s worth watching Seattle Coffee Gear. Mine was an open box so it saved me a ton.

I could afford to spend the money (I'm no OT baller though) but after about 7 years, I honestly haven't felt the need to upgrade my old DeLonghi EC155. With a couple of simple mods, it turns out good espresso. Order a Krups portafilter, depressurize it by drilling out the tiny discharge hole. Cut the bottom off of the portafilter holder. Install a welding tip in place of plastic steam wand tip.

It's been a cheap workhorse that doesn't take up much counter space
