Anyone know where to get real NO snowball syrup?

I fought a cheap little snowball maker that makes shaves ice pretty fine.
I know there are many places that make/sell syrups that claim to be NO, but many fail (like the one from NO WD sells, "Tasty" made by "natural fruit flavot company"

So you're saying the N.O. snowball syrup is better than any other. You guys are amazing.

Would you ever doubt this?

Wow, is there still really that big of an inferiority complex in BR?
Go back and read what I wrote. Keep reading it until you understand it. Does it say anything about NO syrup is better than any other?
Admittedly, it took a while for BR to get a quality snowball stand, but there are a couple, like "T's" on Harrel's Ferry.

I don't live in BR.

It insinuates it.

My point is made again.

The only point you have is the one on the top of your head. Just for you, I went back and clarifed what you incorrectly assumed, yet you still have it wrong.
Please, quit while you are behind.

If u grow up in N.O. you can tell the difference between sno-balls in B.R and N.O.
Now different doesn't mean or insinuate bad...I think they're ok, although that little trailer that set up shop on Perkins near Acadian is terrible. They only put enough syrup to cover the top...you get half way down and its nothing but ice..dry as bone..
But all in all I like most of the stands in B.R, the only thing is, I wish they would stay open past 7pm...kills me that u can't get a snowball after dark in the summer around here.

Snow Wizard.
The sugar water combination is 1 pound of sugar to 1 pint of water and then you mix the concentrate flavor with the sugar water.

Thanks for that tip - I never knew he was the first in NO with the machine.

yes, there IS a difference. Easiest way i can explain it is making sweet tea from adding sugar to it or boiling the tea with the sugar. You can easily tell the difference, boiled is much sweeter and more of a natural taste to it.
Most stands mix the juice (roux) straight up, easier and faster. I believe the standard is 40 lbs of sugar per 7 gallons of water, i could be wrong. To boil it, it's 38 lbs to the 7 gallons.
Bring it to a boil (to purify the water) and add the sugar. It'll liquidate pretty fast. let it sit and cool down (overnight). then add the preservatives (2). I think the yield is about 9.5 gallons. Maybe 200 to 300 snoballs from that? kind of forgot the ratio.
get Southern Sno (Belle Chasse) as the supplier, they're fast and easy to deal with.
Originally they were Sno Wizard, but the brothers split the company. I heard the Sno Wiz guy is nuts, FWTW.
you can do a search for Albany, the guys name is Smitty. he has a couple of stands. he sells a book that details how hard it was to find the recipe. that's where i found it.
i'd be willing to bet that not a single stand "boils" their roux. I'd put my old snoballs up against anyone around here (BTR).
That roux gives the flavors a more natural taste.

quote:Absolutely. Also the machine has a lot to do with it. The ice has to be super fine with no chunks.

I will throw in Sal's (my Old Metairie-ness requires me to do this) and the guy on the corner of Rosevelt and Airline that squeezes fresh fruit...awesome.
Sorry, BR people...once again, get over yourselves...there is no comparison....none.

+1
Also Pandora's on Carrolton near City Park and there's a little place in Metry near Transcontinental and W. Napoleon, name escapes me at the moment...but they are also excellent.
Still chaps my azz that I have to drive to N.O. if i want a snowball after 7pm...
