This may be true of the population, but I'd bet the % of smokers who frequent drinking establishments is far higher.

Not to mention the "nonsmokers" that turn into smokers after 1 beer.

Why not just sit in your bedroom with the light off?

If I want to sit outside and drink I'll go camping or in my back porch

So you would go camping just to drink outside? Sounds retarded.

Try looking at one of the empty lots on government street near Jefferson. In fact, there's a space to rent in the shopping center with Brew-ha-ha and Monjuni's. The Chelsea's peeps have been dragging their feet with their beer garden over by Calandro's, so you could beat them to market.

Another spot that would be fun would be downtown within walking distance of the town square. There's a few empty lots and vacant buildings for sale in Beauregard Town between Government and North that would be great for that.

If you decide to open up such a place, please include boudin on you menu.

I think your idea would be perfect for BR. There is nothing like it. Hopefully Dat Dog and the Gov't beer garden will have what you mentioned. Weather in BR is bad 50% of the time, but our good weather days are as good as they get. Anytime the weather is great like that, me and my friends love going to drink somewhere, have a little food, and watch a game. The first comments are always "lets go somewhere with a patio or outdoor seating". Like you are saying, way fewer places than you would think in BR have good drinks, good patio, and good food. At least in a decent location. It essentially always comes down to Bulldog, Zippys, or Curbside. I live at those places. Bulldog has the best tap selection, curbside has the best food, and Zippys has the best drink prices plus margs.

If you do it, you have to do it right though, know your market in BR. Have nice TVs with all NFL, NCAAF, NBA, LSU sports games. You don't need a large tap list, just a quality tap list for the craft beer drinkers (think Overpass Merchant or Olive or Twist vs Pelican House). Provide good food, but cheaper and not huge portions (the sausages are perfect for this), if I want a large meal I will go to a restaurant over a bar. Have simple mixed drink options that aren't a fortune for the people who don't love craft beer, this is one of the primary reasons Zippys is a staple in BR except they do it to compliment margs.

I'm considering bringing a Bangers in Austin type of beer garden to BR somewhere. Sausage and craft beer. Hard to go wrong with it. I have damn near completed a menu and will be testing it pretty soon. Hunting for a spot as we speak. Considered Perkins rd but with Dat Dog creeping in and that other hot dog place down the road i don't know now. Was thinking gourmet hot dogs at first paired with beer but the Dat Dog news has pushed me away from that. We'll see what happens

Damnit that was my idea! (well without the Austin inspiration). There's availability along Nicholson both by 1010 and by Tin Roof, I think even that U-Haul lot in front of Tin Roof is for sale.

The apartments by Tin Roof should be opening soon and filled with young professionals, there's also a boatload of upper graduate housing coming up right by LSU on Nicholson that will be open soon. And you'll be on the way home for everyone in South BR that uses Nicholson to dodge I-10 traffic, especially now that the Nicholson/Lee intersection is getting worked.

On game day you can pair with Tin Roof and run a shuttle to/from Tiger Stadium and downtown so out- of-town guests can "tailgate" at your beer garden/the Tin Roof front lawn.

If you do that, do what Tin Roof has still failed to do and PUT A SIGN ON NICHOLSON ITSELF!!

Agreed. Just make sure your place is covered and well shaded with good fans and those heaters for the winter time.

Holy hell Jones.
I love nice outdoor seating and it's fine 9 months out the year.
And I try hard to avoid bars that allow smoking. Has nothing to do with kids.

Smoking isn't bad during the day because of so few people, in the evening at the Bulldog it is bad. We go on Saturdays and Sundays with the dogs and sit outside, have a couple of drinks, and hang out. You may have 1 or 2 people smoking but since it is an outdoor area I never smell it.

If it's a "beer garden" focus on good beers, not # of tap handles. CBD is a good example of quality beers. They have a shite load of handles too, but it's mostly quality. The only problem with CBD is the awful atmosphere.

I wonder if CDB will ever begin to draft their own beer, I know when they opened a couple of the managers made mention that would eventually be a goal.

Unless they aren't charging for it, then i doubt it. You want to sell your own beer, then you have to license yourself as a brewery or brewpub and jump through all the hoops that come from that.

Just popping in to say that I can't believe there isn't a decent bar in BR that is smoke free. It would crush. Also, people who don't smoke are generally better customers. Cure being smoke free, when everyone else was filled with nasty arse smoke, helped establish them big time.

Draft House downtown is smoke free inside.

The Varsity is thankfully smoke free now.

Radio Bar is smoke free.

Spanish Moon is supposed to be smoke free (at least downstairs), but it's never enforced.

There are plenty of smoke free bars, but they allow smoking on the patio. I really enjoy sitting outside, but secondhand smoke outside is a deal breaker for me. Give me a place, be it restaurant or bar, with a good taplist, decent patio that doesn't allow smoking anywhere on premises, and I'll be a customer for life.

Glad someone is filling the void. Radio Bar isn't for me, but it's solid. Never been to Draft House.

BR needs to get with the smoking ban. Game changer.

I disagree. I like being able to give my dollars to businesses who don't allow smoking while allowing smokers to be able to patronize places that do allow it. I hate dealing with cigarette smoke, but I also feel smoking bans are a major infringement on the freedoms of smokers. The smoke ban on LSU's campus is insane and never enforced. I would hate to see the same thing happen in BR.

Also, I have never had a problem with people smoking on outdoor patios. It's open and dissipates immediately, so I don't see why it gets your panties in a wad.
