Before I came to my senses, I was looking for somewhere on Perkins but between Lee and Pennington. Hoping to capture some of that new apartment complex plus Southdowns/Kenilworth to either side.
There is a nice spot just past Glasgow that is zoned correctly but it turns out that Spinosa owns it as part of Rouzan and wants MILLIONS for the land. Too bad as I would love to see a nice bar/eatery in that area.

My grandfather did in his later years, but he was an alcoholic.
They say do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

I'm considering bringing a Bangers in Austin type of beer garden to BR somewhere.
That's a good concept, but nowhere in BR is like Rainey St.
Austin and BR are more different than you might think.
I wish you the best and hope it works, but as someone who has lived in BR and Austin I just don't see it working.

I agree but being in the right location I absolutely think it can work. Craft beer & good food particularly sausages can go a long way in a good spot. That concept is booming right now in BR. There's not a beer garden type of place anywhere as of now. The one on Govt doesn't seem to be kicking off anytime soon. You see them everywhere else though. Not quite sure about getting a consistent music scene over there but I don't see a reason why it can't work if placed close enough to campus as possible. There is a huge void in this town for good food and good beer paired with a good atmosphere. Easier said than done but I will find out soon enough.

I know someone who opened a bar after he retired from the military. He had the money but no experience in the bar business. So he partnered up with someone who had extensive experience in the business.
So, 5 years later, my friend has the experience and his former partner has the money.

Didn't start one, but bought an existing one and it's been successful. It's not easy or glamourous.

40oz??! Lol. Not sure how you would make money unless you're charging outrageous prices per oz.

It was somewhere between 40-50 oz. But we aren't talking Miller Lite or anything. This was all great craft beer and of the boozy variety. Nothing less than 6ish % unless you were drinking sours or something. Regardless, it wouldn't take long in there before you were buzzed. $ per oz. would range anywhere from .50 to 2.99 if memory serves me right.

Just seems like a bad business model where you cap the amount that a customer can spend, which is not the same as making sure someone is reasonably drinking. Wouldn't work in Baton Rouge but I wish you the best of luck.

Take all your money you saved and go to the casino and bet it on black or red. Way better chance of making it work.

I would like to get a count of anybody that reads this if they would like a Sausage House/Beer Garden in BR and if you think it would make it in BR. Upvote this post for Yay downvote for nay. Trying to get a consensus .

They actually do well... 40oz is plenty when discussing craft beer as that is at least 3 beer in a 12oz glass.
That's usually how many most people will drink if they plan on going out, it isn't like your's at home and knocking them back with no regrets.
3 beers usually will run you 25-35 bucks depending on style/ABV. Plus at that I could go and try as many as I want with smaller pours. Since I can't dictate how much to pour in my glass.

I don't know why Corporate Brew & Draft or the Draft House haven't gotten on that tip. Seems to me it would be something that would fit in well with those concepts and be a hit in B.R. You could practically train a monkey to put sausages on a grill and toast buns.

I agree however I want to do game sausages as well as new daily sausages with an emphasis on fresh ingredients on Pretzel,Italian,Sesame seed,Kolache buns. I'm big on the new "haze phase" and on top of the craft beer game so those two paired I feel would work. Focusing on funding and location right now

thats funny cause the owners of the bulldogs live in California.
They do a very good job at running a tight ship. They have cameras, no drinking rules for employees, etc.
But they are the exception. A lot of bars seem to neglect getting a worthwhile GM, which means nobody is making sure the staff isn't giving shite away and pocketing money. Bulldog don't play around with that shite.

Corporate does have different types of brats. They now have food truck come and work a couple days a week as well. They're evolving trying to make it more of a beer garden type concept I guess.

I completely disagree. We are not a large city, and we have been bombarded with craft beer concepts relative to the types of folks we have here and the size of our city. Maybe something with tons of money thrown into it like Hay Merchant, but otherwise I wouldn't touch that concept.
Not with Chimes, Olive or Twist, and Bulldog nailing the craft beer + atmosphere + decent food.. and then CBD/Cove offering interesting beers and catering to beer folks.
With the same few places fighting over Parish and the other "rare but local" beers, I'd be skeptical if someone new could even come in and take over that scene without some major connections. Not gonna change what is distributed to Louisiana and people don't seem very interested in random Russian beers or something like that.

I agree, plenty of places with decent food and good beer options. Even smaller places such as The Londoner, Overpass Merchant, Sammy's, BBW, Rotolos, Walk-On's, Burgersmith, etc have started adding craft options. Parish, Gnarly, Urban South, Great Raft, etc can only produce so much. I doubt they're meeting the current demand.

I might be in the minority (probably not though), but the last thing im thinking about when im out drinking beer is ramming some heavy arse sausage into my stomach.
