I recent was gifted a couple jars of honey with the honeycomb included and I would like to make a little honey whiskey/bourbon.

Anyone have experience doing this, and what did you do that worked?

Current plan is to put a cube of honeycomb with honey in it approximately 2x2 into a quart size mason jar and add Wellers Special Reserve.

Any help is appreciated.

i have played around adding things to whiskey

no matter what i tried it turned after a few weeks and became a mass of goo and sediments in the bottom.

if you do it you need to drink it all within a week or two

get cinamin whiskey and add the juice from a jar of marichino cherries to it and it tastes like cinamin red hot candy, its pretty damn good too.

i tried mising stuff with vodka as well, but its too harsh no matter what i tried

the main problem adding stuff is it turns because it has no preservatives to stop it from turning so its not gonna have the shelf life of premixed stuff you buy

I’ve done it a few times for Spanish Town Mardi Gras and LSU games. A bartender at Juban’s told me how to do it.
Buy decent mid-priced liquor- Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, etc. No need to get fancy.
Cut the honeycomb enough to fit in a mason jar. Top with liquor.
Let the honeycomb sit in the jar for a week. Break up the honeycomb with a wand mixer. Let the mixture of broken honeycomb and bourbon sit for another week.
Use a cheesecloth to strain the honeycomb.
Enjoy!

I’d find a cocktail recipe with honey or some other uses for it

Nah, it’s perfectly fine as is. Trust me, more than once I’ve knocked back most of a fifth on my own.

Not even sure if you think this is crappy or good bourbon. I usually drink nice bourbons plain, so I’m using a middle of the road.

I’m not putting Pappy, Blanton’s, Willett Or anything pretty decent into.
