Sounds like his didn't go too well?

I was in Amsterdam recently and a bar I went to had Dark Lord for 99 euro...almost was drunk enough to pull the trigger

I think I know that bar.....everything is over priced there. But you can find Westy 12 in Amsterdam so why even care about dark lord?

I had westy 8 and 12...it was a passing thought til I saw the price...but yeah it was right around the corner from that incredible craft beer shop with all the glasses behind the counter and cases of westy stacked on top of each other

I seem to recall him describing at length what a clusterfrick it was and vowing to never return.

It's a very nice, complex beer, but no way I would pay that much for one.

I was thinking about it but then hunapuh day seemed a little nicer. This year sounded like it was as bad as (or at least nearing) dark lord day.

You raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!??

Ok I've simmered off my rantings about this since the whole "DLD Fest" is completely different know. The first two times I went it was a massive clusterfrick. I haven't been back (work too busy and its a hell of a hike if you want beer to bring home)

It's a lot of fun if you can make a trip out of it. We drove up in a whole day from BR all the way to Chicago and stayed there a couple days. We drank and ate around Chicago, saw some shite, bought a ton of beer, saw the Cubs and White Sox, all the good stuff. The problem is you have to drive about an hour from Chicago to Munster to get to the brewery.

I think now the whole process runs a lot smoother from what I heard. The city really made them scale back on the whole operation because of traffic and drunken debauchery. That was probably a good thing, because the last one i was at got pretty out of hand. Everyone was so wasted it looked like Jonestown the day after. If you have the time and money, I would definitely go. You have to stay in Chicago, but it's a lot of fun if you've never been there. DLD itself to me is more of an afterthought. You really won't get to try the special beers unless you really really like waiting in long arse lines for a 4oz pour of some ridiculous small batch beer.

I've got some pics from the day if I can get my old laptop to work later, I will upload them. You can see what i mean when i say giant clusterfrick.

They've already got the wax top.

If Parish simply changes the name to Grand Monster, hires a local artist to create a badass label, releases it only once a year in a big event at the brewery, then we'll finally have a world class beer that we can all be proud of.

i'm hoping there is some sarcasm there.

I, for one, hope they do not only release grand reserve this day. Some people have other obligations, therefore they can't make it to Lafayette to snag a bottle. It was hard enough running to 3 different stores here in BR to snag a few bottles.

this...i'm not a fan of limited special release shite you can only get in one pace, if you stay up to purchase the tickets from the twitter update at 6am. Yes, DLD did this to us the second year I went.

I kind of like the idea of going to one location (the brewery) and being gauranteed 3+ bottles.

And while the lines for pours are rediculously long at these day events, I've seen some pretty epic bottle shares.

I agree, but I much prefer the reserve society model where I don't have to wait in line for the beer.

I don't think there is a single beer made in Louisiana that I would wait in line for. Barrel age some NOLA ICS and I would think about it.

I've said I'd like to go, but there were reports of people standing in line for upwards of 6 hours to get their bottles this year...

Same here... I mean, Grand Reserve was decent, but I wouldn't kill myself to get it.
