Or any other wild duck? Just figured a wood duck would have the most fat, which I’m sure would be needed for it to be successful...

The plan was to pluck it and gut it first, but I’m open to suggestions.

I figured this much

Just never heard of anyone doing that or wanting to do that. Go for it and let us know how it turns out.

Seems if there was a wild duck to do that with, wood duck would be the one. Hell I’d try it if I had one.

I deep fried a handful of ducks a few years ago when I was frying turkeys.

The yield wasn’t that special...definitely don’t go past medium rare.

I fried a mallard a few years back. Flavor was okay. I overcooked it and the legs and wings were too overdone. The breast was good.

Plucking was easy. I did the melted paraffin wax in water trick. Dunked the bird in the water/wax and refrigerated the bird to cool the wax. Once hard, just pull the wax off and off come the feathers.
