Are you worried about the flu?

Not gumbo specifically, but there's a street food festival downtown tomorrow that I'm hitting up for lunch. The vendors are from NOLA, Lafayette, etc. and look pretty damn good.

Personally, any kind of cook-off, hoedown, jelly off, craft show, festival, or bbq competition is strictly off limits for my family until April, possibly May. With the way this influenza virus has hit Southeastern Louisiana this year, going to any kind of public function where someone is going to be coughing, sneezing, snotting, or weezing is a recipe for disaster.
Do I like jellies and trinkets made out of old Budweiser cans? Who doesn't. I personally can't afford to be put back in the hospital with pneumonia for a rib, some watered down gumbo with Kitchen Bouquet, or a veal cutlet that's going to leave a hole in my colon the size of Texas.

Probably wise to avoid any gathering with lots of people all putting their hands in the same pots and breathing around the food. Not worth it.

Dang, I was going to hit up the Old Schoolhouse Antique Mall in Washington and a few other good junky places, but now you've got me second guessing.

I know more people this year getting the flu than I ever have. It's bizarre. It's been going through our office like crazy and then to those folks' spouses and children. No crowds for me right now. I don't even go around my employees. I'm even putting off some doc appts that are checkups.
Friend's mother was in the hospital recently for something else. Her husband told us all not to come up for visits because everyone in the hospital had the flu and the ER was a flu zoo.

But, you'd stand in line for a king cake from Maurice's Bakery!

Cameron Fur and Wildlife Festival. Cameron, LA. Will be enough alcohol to kill any germs, virus, flu around on contact.

Vaccine was only 10-15% effective this year apparently.
