I guess I can understand your trepidation, but it's kind of weird this is where you draw the line.
Factory farming is absolutely disgusting and way, way worse than cutting a jugular. Those animals are raised in horrible conditions, pumped full of steroids and unnatural foods for their diet and then killed.
I eat factory farmed meat, wild game I kill myself, and halal meat. Out of the three, the most unethical of those is the factory farmed meat.

Just don't go if it bothers you. I wouldn't ask though for stunned meat or non-halal meat as like someone said, it's a little insulting to their culture. You're too good for their barbaric practices. Or, go and just order something vegan.

Yeah, I read that 84% of halal is stunned - it's the other 16% that I don't want to support.
Got no issue if it's stunned first. I'm going to ring and ask if it's stunned without being offensive about it.

No. Not because of your concerns over the meat, but because of the pain in the arse you become when you treat fine dining like Burger King. You don't get to "have it your way". Order the food how the chef intends for it to be served. i have a family member that about 75% of the time asks the server, "instead of this, could you do this?"
FWIW, i get your trying to not come off as one of those people. So when i say, "when you treat fine dining like Burger King" i mean the royal "you".

Someone said to order the prawns so that's what I'm going to do which doesn't offend anyone and will be how the chef intended to serve it.

You probably shouldn't watch any videos on the food chain in this country.
You will end up vegan or just starve.
Stunning or not stunning is far from the top issue with animal treatment when it comes to food.
Wait until you find out about how crawfish are cooked.

I'm in the UK at the moment where there's two licensing authorities that determine whether something is halal - one says that an animal can be stunned (Halal Food Authority) and one says that an animal cannot be stunned (Halal Monitoring Committee). But both are not very clear on whether prawns are halal.
Upon further googling, there are 3 schools of Islam that say prawns can be considered halal and one school that says that prawns are not halal.
They have a rudimentary nervous system from what I've read. I'm not too bothered by the way prawns are killed.

I've been watching a ton of them since Youtube has started recommending them to me.
I'm not too bothered by factory farms but I try and source my meat from local farms.

They legally have to where I am at the moment.
Everything is monitored by video and there are regular random checks.
The only exception is for religious slaughter (which people were really annoyed about at the time).
