I've just read through a somewhat interesting thread and what I've come to is you're not a man of conviction.

There are many phases of cruelty in the animal eating business and it sounds like you want to be rid of the one that makes you go ewwww the most. You should just stop eating mammalian flesh all together.

You could bludgeon a cow to death with a meat mallet and I wouldn't give a shite and you know what, neither would the cow. But I would prefer to not eat the cow that was laying behind another cow and got shite on by said cow. I saw that once you know and it was gross.

Next time I'm in a restaurant I'll ask if the cow I'm eating was shite on by the cow standing above it.

But I'll tell ya though. I learned something watching that cow getting shite on. Those fricking animals are dumb. In fact, I doubt they're much more intelligent than your garden variety domestic turkey.

As a matter of fact, someone actually told me once that cows are so fricking stupid, that they've been known to drown themselves in a rainstorm. Too fricking dumb to actually turn around and get the rain out of their faces. Now I don't know if that's true or not but I do know these animals aren't bred for intelligence. In fact, just the opposite.

So really when it comes to the manner of death, should I give a cow any more thought than catching a fish and letting it flop around in my cooler until it dies? Because I don't give a single shite about that fish or how it meets it's end either.

But if I were to care how that cow dies. What's wrong with exsanguination? It's painless and the animal is completely unaware of what's happening to itself. In fact, it has no sense of self at all.

We should all be so fortunate to go out so peacefully. Why would you deny such a peaceful death to a cow?

I would like to get rid of all of them but it's not practical or possible for me to do so. However, it is relatively simple for me to avoid eating halal meat.

And there are alternative ways of killing (stunning + kill) that are just as cost-effective and more humane according to several studies I've seen.

As much as I would like to get rid of factory farming, that's not going to happen. Just because there are other points of cruelty within the supply chain, that doesn't mean I can't advocate for one point of cruelty to be removed. It doesn't mean I don't care about the other cruelty elements, it's just not practical to do. Furthermore, mandating stunning is required in many European countries + UK (except for religious slaughter so it would be a fairly easy loophole to fix) so it doesn't seem like a difficult problem to fix compared with factory farming etc. which is necessary to deliver cheaper meat.

Exsanguination didn't look peaceful in any of the videos to me. The animals seemed to be aware of what was going on.

Peaceful is being stunned + killed. I want a peaceful death for my meat which is why I don't like halal.

Jesus Christ. You're worried about how the animal is killed, but you don't worry about how it lives its damned life? The way the animal goes out is the least of its worries compared to the hellhole of factory-raised meat.

Weird line to draw in the sand, Clark. Get over yourself (and I eat hardly any meat, for this reason). That being said, if I went to eat somewhere and they slaughtered the damned animal in front of me, I would eat the freaking food out of respect for their culture (unless I was truly a vegan and opposed to any killing of animals). Your ethics are a little wonky, if you eat "regular" meat but won't eat this meat.
