We took the leftover crawfish and popped the tails off (Still in the shell) and put them in gallon ziplock bags and stuck them in the freezer. How long will the tails stay good this way? Disclaimer: I've already made ettoufee, omelets, and crawfish pies with some of the leftover, just had a lot left.

I would just watch for ice crystals and freezer burn. I've noticed stuff starts to change flavor once you start seeing a that.

If you got em sealed nice and tight you should have a few months until freezer burn sets in

I kinda did this over the weekend with about 3lb's but I peeled them and double sealed with ziplocks and put into the freezer.

I'm either thinking of doing this and double sealing, or put them in some water and freeze them.

Sometimes we do last minute dishes with crawfish tails and it's nice to pull some tails out. Spicier than the frozen ones at da Rouses.

Is there an advantage to keeping them in the shell?

I never keep them in the shell. I know it’s tempting when you’re full and your fingers are raw, but it’s kinda like putting off cleaning dishes after dinner.. you’ll completely regret that you did it when it comes time to use them.

Keep an eye out at Sam's or Costco. Mine was under $200. Amazon is good too. It's probably the best thing in my kitchen.

Lol, yes and no. My family asked what they could do to help, I told them if they could just finish peeling the tails I would take care of the rest of cleanup. By the time I got done with everything they were already put up in the freezer with the shell still on. I guess I will have to make my directions a lot more clear next time.

yeah, you can get a good quality one for under $100 on Amazon. Even a high quality model under $200 is well worth the money as long as you have a decent amount of freezer space

Not to pile on here, but defrosting them, and then peeling them, is gonna be a huge pain in the arse.

Even if properly vacuum sealed they’ll get funky pretty quick. Especially if you put a bunch of fat in with the tails. A lesson I learned the hard way after pealing about 25 lbs and putting up last year. I would eat within 6 months.

They will all be eaten within 1-2 months. Between pasta, bisque, crawfish cakes, dips, crawfish poboys they will not go wasted in this house.

It’s not a vacuum sealer, but it’ll save you $200.
