They were in a class action suit for false advertising. It’s no longer aged 8 years, but they kept a big fricking 8 right there on the bottle.
Not sure of the status of the suit right now.

Hence manipulative. It’s been a NAS bourbon since 2014 apparently but they changed years to seasons and kept the big 8 on the bottle.
Last thing I see on the suit is this opinion from February. Here’s a summary:
Last thing I see on the suit is this opinion from February. Here’s a summary:
quote:
While the court’s February 5 order somewhat narrows the plaintiffs’ case, the bulk of the claims were allowed to continue. Throughout the opinion, the court placed great weight on the combination of the “8” references on the label with the product’s prior history of being a bourbon aged for eight years. Presumably, the court viewed this history as creating a consumer expectation that made their reliance on the “8” references reasonable.
The case will now likely proceed to the intrusive and expensive “discovery” phase unless the parties can agree to a settlement. Given the time and expense of litigation and the apparent sympathy the court’s opinion displayed towards the plaintiffs’ claims of deception, one must expect that the defendants will give settlement serious consideration.

I heard Old Charter sells more in Louisiana than any state combined, and they have since pretty much stopped selling it besides sparingly in Louisiana now
I remember tailgates in the 80s/90s growing up and Old Charter was the only thing you saw LSU fans drink

Buffalo trace has been owned by Sazerac since the 90s so it was a semi “local” brand if you want to call it that with it being distilled in Kentucky.
Old charter is still here in Texas.

My grandfather drank Old Charter. One day, my grandmother (so. baptist), who was always embarrassed to be buying Old Charter, dropped an entire handle in the kitchen. You could get drunk just walking in the kitchen.
I've never liked it myself.

I never saw it anywhere else
Now it seems like all the tailgates have Crown instead of charter

Two potential reasons for the scarcity. A shortage of barrels for aging bourbon and it gets sold out and so the aging has to happen before they can make more.

What's my unopened bottle of Old Charter Classic 90 worth?
Posted on 7/15/18 at 6:23 pm to celltech1981
See it at Walmart but no longer at Albertsons or Winn Dixie

They quit making 10 yo about 5 years ago. That was a sad day for many.
