This is much more accurate than the OP's link.

20 ft. Of course, that's why I have to pay for flood insurance.

So I checked my elevation and im at 65 ft. I checked the house I lived in in Baton Rouge until last September and its at 17 feet. Uh oh.

BTR is listed at 51ft. ASL. When houses are built, a 100-year floodplains is used in BTR.
quote:
n 1967 Congress passed the National Flood Insurance Act which called on local governments to map their 100-year floodplains. The 100-year floodplain is land that has a one in 100 chance of flooding in any given year. As expected the 100-year flood plains in East Baton Rouge Parish largely follow the waterways – both the smaller urban creeks and the larger water course of the Comite and Amite rivers. The basic purpose of the mapping of the 100-year floodplains is to discourage development in the path of potential high water. Nonetheless, real estate demands have impinged on the floodplain and drainage systems are constantly being enlarged to accommodate more runoff.

That's an understatement.

Since I'm at -6.6 ft in Metairie right on Lake Ponchartrain, I was wondering what the elevation would be for River Road directly south of where I live. Looked up the elevation for Rivershack Tavern on River Road in Jefferson--elevation of 11.8 ft.

38-39ft here (if the agcenter one is right, if the hybrid map worked I would have a better idea)
