what does that mean as far as the levees at Butte La Rose?

less strain on the levees there and farther north and certainly less flooding. 2 feet less flood water makes a huge difference.

JudgeHolden i have listened to your advice but are you from the area?? I ask because had you been you would know that there are back bayous that run from a few miles from butte la rose all the way to 3 mile lake. So it will probably flood there to.So even with the two levees and a river it will flood badly there with the back water

not sure what people you may be refering to. The media has done it's damnedest to sensationalize an event that the corps and the local engineers had under control using simple math and 40 years of preparation. It's the "worst case scenarios" that have been fostered to legendary proportions.

In 1973 the Corps opened 60 gates one after another and it was virtually a tidal wave. But then the Old River structure was on the verge of collapse and there was a real threat of the river changing channels. After they realized Morgan City was about to get submerged they started closing some back down to around 35% I think.

Sorry I was not clear. I meant to emphasize immediate effects. Three Mile Lake will get water. But it was not going to get water yesterday. Eventually the water will back up to Three Mile Lake, no doubt. But when the water has not yet reached the Four Mile Bridge going down, it is days away from reaching Three Mile Lake coming back around.

Your point is well taken. Perhaps the news team was more prescient than I was willing to give them credit for. Maybe they were doing a before and after. Excuse me judging them without knowing. I am just so jaded by the media's coverage of this thing that I am willing to ascribe ignorance to all of them.

The water has moved just south of the railroad truss that runs through the Morganza spillway as of mid morning. That puts it probably 5 miles north of US 190.

This gage seems to suggest that about 2 feet of Morgaza water has made it to Hwy 190.

and this gage indicates another gate opened about noon.

That gauge is probably in a little bayou that runs under the bridge. My post is from a visual of water on normally dry land by the railroad inspectors.

I am hearing now the Corps feels like they may only have to open 12 bays total. The important thing to note is not nearly the volume of water feared will be sent down the Morganza spillway

As of yesterday 7pm, I did not see any movement of unusual water under the Morganza Spillway bridge on 190 West.

We have a camp @ 3 Mile Lake (west of Krotz Springs) and there is no visual of water there either.

I would guess that water will hit the 190 Spillway bridge today sometime.

I will keep you guys posted.
