will i be penalized for sitting my D tonight?

So i am up 5 and just have saints d left, he is done. I want to sit my d to avoid a negative number but i am not sure if i will get penalized for not starting a defense. we use espn, and im the commish. I never set anything saying every spot must be filled but it could be default. anyone know?

I’d be shocked if the Saints printed a -5.
I’d just start them and hope they make some plays to boost your total points, but there shouldn’t be any deductions for not starting a DST.

Yeah, at 5 pts I'm not risking the loss for "tiebreaker at the end of the year"

In my league that’s an illegal lineup and forfeit.

Agreed. It's a strategic and active move. It's not the same as someone just forgetting to submit a lineup.

You won’t be penalized by ESPN default settings. Any penalty would have to be manually enacted by the league commish, and seeing as that’s you and you’re not aware of a rule against not playing a defense...I’d say you’re good to sit them.

Commish probably lost a game one year where the other guy benched his defense that ended up scoring negative points.
