Thoughts on Patrick Mahomes this year?

In my 12 team draft last night, I picked him as my starter in the 11th round. Every single other team in my league picked a QB by the 6th round which I thought was crazy because I usually wait a good while before getting a QB, especially with the good depth this year. Anyway, I picked Mahomes, but I honestly have no idea how good he will be this year. But he has a huge arm, has a ton of weapons on offense, and has looked pretty decent in the preseason. What do you guys think of Mahomes this year?

Nobody knows. He’s gotta be decent if the Chiefs believe in him enough to let Alex Smith go after a career year. Mahomes can run the ball really well, which will give him some good fantasy value. But apparently he’s struggling with interceptions in practice

Practice is the time to throw them.

He has a lot of weapons and his coach knows a thing or two about coaching QBs. I think he's a top 10-12 QB. I wouldn't have an issue with him as my starter, I would just try to pair him with someone like Matt Ryan or Rivers who are cheap.

Would you put Cousins and Garapollo in front of Mahomes?

I took him with my last pick of the draft as my backup to Cousins. Idk how i'd feel about him as my starter, I definitely see weeks where he'll score 6-8 points, but there's going to be week where he puts up high 20s as well. Time will tell

if the D is as bad as suspected, you've got a big armed QB surrounded by some talented play makers in weekly shootouts.

I'm OK taking a swing on him late and if he doesn't pan out just go back to streaming

Jimmy > mahomes

Mahomes will be a lower % passer on a team that will be run heavy imo. Will pop some big plays but he’ll have reigns on him. I don’t think he’ll he playable every single week

Too many other good, proven QBs. I’m happy to let someone else take him

Can't be run heavy with that defense.

Alex Smith had 62 deep passes on 505 attempts. I think Mahomes is going to be over 500 attempts due to gamescript. His deep ball attempt % is going to be closer to Roethlisberger than Smith too. I can see ~115 deepballs this year and he has the best set of downfield weapons in the league with Tyreek, Sammy, Robinson, Conley and Kelce. Even if he doesn't match the accuracy of Smith, he will push more and will have almost twice the attempts.

He may be inconsistent, but he is going to crush some weeks. The only issue is the schedule is pretty rough for Pass D.
