its only 4 pts for a passing TD, right?

Yeah, but I know my league mates, last year these guys all went first 2 rounds:

Rodgers, Brees (1st round)
Brady, Manning, Schaub (2nd round)

Manning went middle 2nd, Brady end... but that's not happening again.

I could see Vick, Brady, Brees, Rodgers all going in the 1st this year.

Then Manning in the mid 2nd...

Romo went round 3, rivers at the top of 4, so I could do AP, and hold out hope that Rivers falls to 24, but I dunno.

Of course, that's why I started the thread.

Defending my viewpoint because I want to be convinced otherwise... I want as much knowledge/perspective about this as possible.

let them go then. load up on studs (RB/WR). drafting a QB #1 is beyond retarded, especially in a 4pt.TD league

how much better does Vick + need to be than a 2nd or 3rd rd. QB to justify passing on Peterson/CJ.

Hard to say.

I say AD or CJ would be my choice, and hope to get Rivers in the Second.

I'd take Peterson+E.Manning honestly(if Peyton, Tom, Phillip, or Matt are not available). I think he has an excellent WR corps, favorable schedule, and does produce good numbers.

what type of scoring league are you in?

6 points for a touchdown
1 point for every 10 yards rushing
1 point for every 20 yard passing

No bonuses or anything like that... pretty much standard scoring.

6 pts for a passing TD generally isnt "standard", but i play in a league like that too. Hope you can survive nabbing Vick #1. good luck

I've played in maybe 2 or 3 leagues since '05 that had a passing TD worth 4 points instead of 6. I know yahoo has 4 as the standard... just was never to my liking. Always felt a touchdown should be a touchdown.

On that note... I've never had the 1st pick ever. Mostly likely I won't be able to find out how that goes.

Not ppr.

Right now I'm leaning taking AP then dealing him promptly to whoever takes Vick for a pick upgrade.

I would have no problem with this.

Picking is all about value. The difference between the RB you can pick at 1 and 24/25 is significant. The difference between QBs is no where near as big a gap.

Factor in 1/25 passing and 1/4 TDs and a running QB in his 30s, and you would have to be a retard.

Would be a foolish decision, even if it ends up working.

If ghat many QBs go in the 1st 2 rounds with that scoring, let them. Load up on RBs and WRs. Pick Roethlisberger or Kolb or Bradford or something late.

You will crush.

Yeah, I think that bit of conventional wisdom has been proven wrong many times by now.

It hasn't, not with the first pick. If you were picking 5-7 I would maybe have a different opinion, but its just the truth.

Yes, you can get some good guys later that will surprise, but you can do the same with QBs.

The difference between the #1 RB and the #15 RB is fairly significant as opposed to QB 1 and QB 6.

Did it last year and got to my league finals.

Personally, I think FF has a lot of luck involved, but you still have to pick on value.

Yes, the conventional wisdom has changed a bit and you don't have to have 3 great RBs. You could go RB/QB/WR. But with the #1 Pick? With that scoring system? Go RB. Don't think about it.
