passing on QBs as steady as those listed for someone as volatile as Vick is kookoo. much less drafting him #1 overall.
This is what I don't understand... you say he's volatile.
I realize it's not the be all, end all measure, but if his career average numbers equal more fantasy points than the "stable" qbs, what's volatile?
He out scored them all last year... in 12 games.
Ok, so I risk him getting hurt (which is still not something I'm buying on). But what else? What exactly is volatile here? Even a downturn in his performance from last year, would still be more points than those guys, it seems...

you're an eagle fan, no?
yeah, but that has nothing to do with my drafting.
if every piece of this situation was true except he played for the cowboys, not the eagles, i'd still feel the same.

if it were 2008, would you draft Michael Vick #1?
career average is a stupid number. Obviously the biggest factor that makes Vick attractive is his season last year.
he was always a solid QB in ATL. But hardly the top player overall.

I'm not sure what you are driving at with that...

To me his production last year says "this is what I can do in an offensive system with talent at other spots than RB."
In ATL he didn't have a ton of options, but even if you think he did, he definitely didn't have a coherent offensive system like what Philly has.
So to me it's his personal talent + system + talent surrounding him that makes him worthy of no. 1 overall.
eta: To me what you are saying is the equivalent of saying, "Hey, Drew Brees isn't a top 3 QB. Just look at what he did in San Diego!"

what is his "career average" without last year factored in?
Posted on 8/4/11 at 4:54 pm to Lester Earl
I have been taking QBs 1 for the past 3 years in every serious league I play in. I've made 5 championship games out of 6 possible and won 3.

I don't have time to run it right now, but I'll do it later.

anyway, my point was you keeping pimping his career average as a reason to draft him #1. If he was always that good, would you take him #1 overall 3 years ago? 2 years ago? I mean he averaged 290 points on his career!!!!!
maybe the new offense makes him this good. Or maybe he had a great year. Just not worth finding out by chancing the #1 pick on him.

He's my choice for first pick. He can score 40-50 points on any given week... and his crap weeks are at least average. I'm aware of the health risk given that he's a running quarterback... but it's well worth the risk for me. How many players in the league can put up points like he can... not that many.

you're preaching to the choir. Im a huge advocate of drafting QBs early.
im still not taking Vick #1

what type of scoring league are you in?

I want a QB in the 2nd/3rd round. The better QB I get the better I feel. Although, I do think you can get good value later in the draft.

Kind of my thoughts as well.
I realize elite backs are special, but I also feel like a good back can be had later.
I think the real question I need to ask myself is how much better does Vick + need to be than a 2nd or 3rd rd. QB to justify passing on Peterson/CJ.

AP+Manning=Championship
Vick+Forte=Sidelines
Vick+Forte=Sidelines

IT's a 12 team league, so there's no way I'd sniff Manning at the bottom of the 2nd round.
Posted on 8/4/11 at 5:20 pm to OBUDan
its only 4 pts for a passing TD, right?
Posted on 8/4/11 at 5:22 pm to OBUDan
You'd be surprised what happens during a draft.
