Sorry, I thought you were saying having passing tds at only 4 points was stupid.

I ran the numbers on a top back, let's say Peterson, since he has the best sample and he's generally no. 1 overall.

Vick based on an average year including his Falcons days: 292 points.

Petersons based on career averages (I was generous and gave him 1 receiving TD, even though he only has 2 in his career): 257 points

At this point, I'm pretty convinced Vick will be my pick. Started this thread, because I wanted to see if there's an argument for NOT taking him OTHER than, "OH HE WILL GET HURT!"

I haven't seen one yet.

I just ran some numbers using my scoring system, based off career averages (remember this is factoring in his time in Atlanta, where his passing stats were less prodigious over a full season than they were in 12 games for Philly last year) his total points would end up at 293.

Brady based on career averages: 282.

then take him!

The drop off from Vick to say Brees or Brady is much less than the drop off from AP/Foster to Hillis/Forte. I would take a stud RB in the first and then Brees/Brady in the 2nd verses taking Vick in the first and being stuck with someone like Hillis in the 2nd

a QB w/ the 1st pick in a 4pt/TD league? an injury prone QB at that?

have you explored the option of trading down to the end of the 1st round? Don't waste the top pick on him, at least trade down, take him & get something outta that top pick.

That's what I'm going to look at. I've been reading a lot of different strategies, because I've always been big on 3 RBs in the first 5... load up early, etc. etc.

But one guy has me intrigued with his strategy of waiting on RB until after round 5, because statistically RB has the most turnover of any position... the fewest guys from the top 10 return to the top 10 the next season.

i prefer mathtard.

eta: For a guy who always says, "Pay for the numbers not the name," you are clearly going back on your principles here... because the numbers say Vick all the way.

considering it.

the thing is though, he's such a wildcard type of player. the guy with the 8th pick said he'd deal with me. i realize vick's adp is 8 right now. but i also know IF he fell to 7, that guy wouldn't hesitate to take him. so, i could eye picks 2-6, but if i'm firmly convinced he's clear cut no. 1, why risk letting him go? that's my concern.

First of all, can you trade picks? If so, trade for a lower pick and then nab Vick.

If not, then draft Foster, Peterson, etc. After the draft trade Foster/Peterson + an average player for Vick plus a pretty decent player.

For example, Foster/Peterson + Marcedes Lewis for Michael Vick + Dallas Clark. Of course, make sure you make take the logical precautions in the draft, such as drafting an elite QB or not having enough quality RB's.

This is true, I want to say in the past 5 years, 43% of the end of season top 10 RBs are drafted outside the top 3 rounds

Yeah, it's something I'm toying with. Obviously I'm not going to be disappointed if I had AP or CJ... I'm not as keen on Foster, but he'll still be good.

I'm not sure.

figuring average points over a career is pretty pointless.

are you telling me you'd rather Mike Vick and Amad Bradshaw than Adrian Peterson and Phillip Rivers?

you're talking to someone who advocates taking a QB early. #1 is crazy though, esp Vick.

Answer this: which players have the best shot of hitting 300 fantasy points this year, all variables included:

Brees
Brady
Vick
Rivers
Rodgers
Manning

I'd offer the guy with the 6th pick:

1st overall/your 6th rounder (keep in mind you pick last in the 6th)

for

His 6th overall/5th rounder

That way you move back, still get the guy you want, plus gain another pick a rounder earlier than you are giving up.

Not a bad idea.

I need to fish around and see what people are thinking. I will say, I'd think the 2 guys right behind would pass on Vick... after that, I'm not sure.

pump the brakes my man

I dont pay for the name, you are right. But part of that is gauging value. Especially when dealing with the draft, as opposed to trading in-season

I'm not sure yet... that's really what I have to decide.

I really doubt Rivers goes that late in this league though.

Only 3 did it last year in my league, Vick, Rodgers, and Brady, with Manning in the 290s.

good luck

passing on QBs as steady as those listed for someone as volatile as Vick is kookoo. much less drafting him #1 overall.
