In my "main" money league we implemented a hybrid system two years ago where you play two games per week - h2h and total points (which are tallied offline on a spreadsheet updated weekly). So, you can go 2-0, 1-1, 0-2, etc. each week.

How do you keep standings? Is there a way to do it on Yahoo?
Never thought about this but sounds like a good idea.

if a team makes the playoffs at 6-6 and another is 12-0 why should these teams be on equal playing field? The better team should have an advantage. when the worse teams wins it is bad for the sport as a whole. anything to decrease the built in variance is a good thing to me. Two week playoff matchups. Home field advantage points for the better team. Both good things.

Injuries happen.

In the real NFL if an injury hurts your team but your team is the better overall team you don’t get any compensation because your mathematically the better team.

That’s what makes fantasy exciting and also stressful.

How you manage your bench all year are you a good manager.

I have mixon this year so ya I handcuffed him with Gio. If you drafted bell this year then you should have also drafted Connor.

There are some injuries that you can’t prepare for like guice, ajayi, Hunt (stupid), cook (but look at him now), mckinnon, breida, freeman (should have Coleman), fournette (but look at his injury history),etc........

Then you have the underperformets...OBJ, johnson, Robinson, Howard, Drake, Prescott, mccoy, etc.....

Having the "better team" in fantasy is not always reflected by your record. That 6-6 team may have just not been as lucky as the 12-0 team. If that 6-6 team scored more points than that 12-0 team throughout the course of the season, then you are technically giving a home field advantage to the worse team.

We have a GroupMe for this particular league with all members in it. Each week, one of the members posts two lists - (1) the total points standings for the week and (2) the updated overall standings (combining the total points wins and the Yahoo!-kept H2H wins).

When we get to playoff time, I as the commissioner simply edit the Yahoo! playoff seeds to align with the offline overall standings.

It's a bit more laborious, but it's been a big hit so far over the former H2H system.

ETA: the added bonus to doing the GroupMe is it allows for continuous smack talk, gifs, etc. through the season that you don't typically get via the host sites or without annoying group texts.

the major platforms should look into adding premium features for custom leagues. I know there's other pay for services that do, but the layout is generally awful and it becomes a tougher sale to league mates when you're not only proposing a radical rule change but also switching to a new format that's not nearly as user friendly.

I suggested this hybrid system last year in a league.

I love FAAB it makes you really think about how much $$$$ to spend early or do you save it for a possible injury replacement later in the year. At the end of year if you have FAAB left over do you look back and regret not spending more to try to get a certain waiver player.

FAAB really makes you be a manager and think like a GM.

I’ll take user friendly over radical changes any day. Going back to RT Sports and away from where it was last year in TDFL made this year more enjoyable to me but I’m also in multiple leagues so I can’t just concentrate on 1 and only 1 league.

I built up trophy case by having the best team or second best team damn near every year. when a team who has been the top dog all year loses to a team who snuck into the playoffs that is bad for the game. That’s why we should have a home field addy to make it harder for the lower seeded ie worse teams to win. take some of that one week variance out of the equation a little.

1. I hate DST but every year the only league I'm in votes down my suggestion to move to IDP. I miss playing in IDP leagues. Adding 3 to 4 defensive players helps to open up the waiver wire to the point where there are actually decent offensive options available instead of just garbage, especially in a 14-teamer.

2. At first I disagreed with this since I figure if people are willing to reach early for the few elite TEs that exist then they will just lag more than the rest at WR/RB but the more I think about it (and trying to forget that I was lucky to get a steal with Kittle in the 8th round) I actually like this idea and will try to get people on board with this at next year's draft.

3. When I first heard of H2H the first thing I thought was "fair but boring." I like the competitiveness/shite-talking that comes with H2H but top/bottom makes a lot of sense. This is the first I'm hearing of the hybrid style that employs both. Do all the major fantasy league outlets (Yahoo, ESPN, CBS, NFL, Sleeperbot) offer this?

A 6-6 team outscoring a 12-0 team happens about I’d guess about 2% of the time. Very very rare. Usually the 12-0 team is much much better.

For the guys who have moved to hybrid/are thinking about it, just wanted to say that I did it in two of the leagues I commish and I'd say it was definitely a success. You still had the engagement and trash talk that comes with head to head, but the top 6/bottom 6 aspect gives you more things to sweat on Sunday/Monday night while also allowing the better teams to get the playoff seeds they deserved.

There's a "hybrid standings" chrome plug-in one of my friends found that calculates the standings and interfaces with ESPN to show them on the standings page if you have the plug in installed. Each week I would copy/paste the standings to the league note section of the standard home page- it would take less than 5 minutes to do, and there's a way smaller chance of an error because it isn't manual

Happened to me last year. I was 11-1 and highest scoring team by a big margin.

Lost in semi final because my QB and Gurley had the worst games of the year.

Won 3rd place the next week. My total score was more than both teams added together in the championship game.

Fantasy Football the mistress we all love at times and love to hate at times. It’s a crap shoot sometimes.

I went 5-5 this year and had the most PF and now I'm in the final. Happens more often than you think
