Do you really need to be motivated to go out and vote?

Ever since I turned 18, I've always just gone to the polls to vote. Like it's on the schedule every four years.
I could see people not making informed decisions about who they vote for, but it baffles me that people don't vote out of laziness or apathy.

Yes. End of the day, you're tired, you have a life, kids, animals, chores, fun to have and so many people plan on voting and get to the end of the day and go
"Aw frick it, it's not like it will make a difference"
People have shite going on

i get it. The choices suck.
I have voted in every election I could, except 2006 when I was out of the country and my absentee ballot was denied.
even the county shite. every single time.

No but you have to have about 30 minutes to an hour of free time over a period of 14 hours or over the course of a week. That's A LOT to ask.

I had to be motivated to get up at 5:30 am and stand in line for 45 minutes
I saw at least one person see the line and do the "frick this" with their hands and leave

I have a ton of shite going on. Life, kids, animals, and chores. Need more fun though.
I don't really think of it as "I'm making a difference!" It's just more of something that I'm supposed to do today.
Kind of like in high school when they hand you the homecoming queen ballot. You don't give a shite about it at all, but you mark the hottest girl on the list.

What difference would my vote make either way in Alabama?

If that just doesn't typify the average American I don't know what does.

I've voted in every election for over 40 years. It's not inconvenient if you do some planning ahead. Off year elections are especially fast. I've never walked into the polling place with more than 2 people ahead of me in an off year ballot.

Truth in a state like Louisiana Dem's voting are about as useless as Repub's voting in California.
If it weren't for local election I wouldn't bother. Hillary aint winning Louisiana. Period. But Louisiana doesn't matter in the grand sachem of things. soo....

I love it. We want less people voting in America. We should do everything possible to discourage voting.

Given that we just had 30% turn out for the Governor's election in Kentucky last year, apparently a lot of people do.
Personally, I've voted in every election since I was old enough to vote. I have abstained from some Presidential elections, but I was taught by my parents that voting isn't just about voting for President. That there are many other political races that are incredibly impactful on my life that I should take interest in and vote in. Especially locally when it comes to school board members, judges, councilmen, etc.
ETA: I also respect the fact that were women before me that sacrificed a lot for the 19th Amendment to be passed, allowing me the right to vote.

Yes people need to be.
I know multiple people this cycle that are voting for the first time just to vote for Trump. And I wouldn't have voted for if it was anyone but trump. I live in GA. It's going red. But trump has earned my vote.
You're ignorant if you think everyone views it as "oh it's been 4 years time to go vote "

Not many competitive ones. 3 SC judges and the Public Service Comm running unopposed. A few more R's that might as well be. Quite a few amendments but 90% of the voters can't understand them and will likely vote the wrong way. A bunch of judge races that no one knows anything about and will just check their party. We have the worst fricking voting populace in the nation here.

That's another reason people don't do it
They're told they must
It doesn't need to make sense, but it's true

I don't really see it that way. Voting is a right not an obligation. You are obligated to be informed and if you decide both options suck, don't vote. Why would you ever feel obligated to vote between two terrible options?
