I am thinking about switching from Geico to Shelter Insurance for my auto insurance. Anyone have any great experience with Shelter and would you recommend the switch?

Do yourself a favor and call an independent agent to shop numerous companies and find you the best price available.

We use shelter for the majority of our insurance needs. But I need to add that a good friend is our agent with them. That being said a lot of people in our area have switched to them and say they have great customer service, plus they were able to lower their insurance cost on nearly everything (auto, home, life, ect..)
Hope this helps.

We use shelter for home, auto, and life. Never had to file a claim on auto or life but my house flooded about 7 years ago. An adjuster was at my house the next day, and what I thought was a very generous offer was cut into a check within 48 hours.
About 3 years later, wind damaged my roof. Same story. I did have a higher roof deductible but the whole process was fair and quick.
As a matter of fact, my only complaint is that they charge me as a smoker on my life insurance when I told them that I smoke a cigar about once every two-three weeks. I don’t like it, but I am willing to concede that as fair, even though I passed a urine screening for nicotine.

I have a great agent in the Lafayette area that works at Shelter. Email me at wcasoccer21@gmail.com and I can link you up to get a quote.

Most life insurers will do that.

We have renters insurance through shelter and after hurricane Laura they were great to us. A lot of people if not most in SWLA did not have such good luck with their insurance

Are they captive or can they offer from multiple carriers?

Had them for HO for many years. Had a couple of small roof repair claims, and they were reasonable to deal with. Got auto coverage for a relative with them. That was also a good experience. They are worth a look if the price is right.

My dad worked for them and retired recently.
They mail him gifts all the time. Good company.

This basically comes down to the price right? Nobody can beat my Geico rate. I have homeowners with shelter, but Geico has policy writers that are much cheaper, I may switch soon.

I have Shelter for everything. I got hit by Laura and Delta last year.
Both storms, Shelter deposited $2k into my account the day of the storms ($4k total) for me to use for evacuation, generators, etc. if you spend over $2k, the reimburse you.
Adjuster came out, looked at the house, sent me a very generous check, no arguing or anything. Hooked me up with several things. This was the case with all of my family members in the area using Shelter.
I will continue using them, especially after the horror stories of all other companies during that time. Shelter was and is awesome

Mind sharing who your agent is? I'm wanting to do some shopping after my state farm experience with both storms last year.

I used Ross Byrley in Lake Charles and I had the same great experience with Shelter after the storms
