Anyone live on the lakefront in Mandeville?

How do you like it? What don’t you like?
Rode through that area yesterday for the first time in awhile. Beautiful day, people walking around, restaurant and bars were full of people. Still close to the bridge
Looks like all the houses for sale there are now selling for $200+ sq ft. Appears to have become a pretty desirable area to live on the Northshore

I’m half a mile from the lake, awesome area. We bike to many of the restaurants, trailhead, lakefront, etc.

I live in MV just north of 190. It's a great place to live. Old Mandeville has plenty to do, and its a great place to walk/bike. Spring and summer weekends are awesome out at the lake, plenty of greenspace to chill and let the kids run around.
Houses in old MV are interesting, Girod is the main drag but you can go one block away and find a shack that is falling apart. The lot is woth $$$, as those old houses are slowly being replaced with modern homes.

How's the flooding out there? I know a lot of the homes are built up. How far inland is at risk?

I don't know that. I would imagine a new build would have to be up for a few blocks inland. I know some friends that bought on Girod near the Rusty Pelican and they are gutting the house but it is considered a remodel so they did not have to build up.
I know this weekend the water was spraying over the seawall, but not threatening Lakeshore Drive.

Pro's: location- trail-head access, restaurants, lakefront, causeway access, good school zone
Con's: -The city can be PIA to deal with. For example there is a "Tree Preservation Plan" in place. Residents in the area will call you out for trimming trees certain ways resulting in fines.
All in all, great place to live. Just do your research if you're buying a "fixer upper". My advice, get someone who has recently done similar work in the area to insure you estimate all requirements to get the home to spec.

Good call. I was just browsing some properties, and there is one on Marigny that was built in 1884. Im sure there are a ton of surprises when you peel back the skin on that bad boy

I just checked that house out on Zillow, good location right off Girod and looks like it has been updated.
But you're right, when you buy a house that old you will always be fighting some sort of repair. Some people love to do that, but it's not my cup of tea.

This x100. I know a guy with a nice lot that has a big Oak tree smack dab in the middle of the lot. City won't "allow" him to cut it down. Basically making the lot impossible to build upon. Besides the trees, they get bent out of shape if you want to put lots of concrete and several other things. Buy with caution if you plan to build.

BRUHHHHHH!!! PIA is a slight understatement. My parents live two blocks off the lake and have been dealing with the city since Katrina about this tree bullshite. 2 years ago my dad finally cut the last two dead trees down and the city had a fricking tantrum. He wasnt allowed to cut them after the storm because the city wanted to try and save as many trees as they could and my dad was cool with that. Well, over the years they have died and limb by limb, they have fallen down. One was 10' off the street and leaning in that direction more and more over the years. The city gave them a list of replacement trees to be planted and started their harassment campaign with site visits, letters and phone calls. They finally planted a couple trees and one day 6 months ago my mom gets a visit from as she describes, "some slapdick tree hugging city worker", who told her the trees weren't in the right location. She said the dead trees were in my front yard so that is where I replanted your trees. You can kindly get off my property now.... They havent been back since.
