Here’s a pic of my road bike I took a few weeks ago on an absolutely miserable 109 heat index day 25 mile ride. I drank 3 full bottle of water that day and still lost 4lbs.

You should move up to Austin. Riding is much better than Houston and a little less humid

I love Austin. I’ll actually be there next week and lived there for a year back in 2015. I just couldn’t take the traffic anymore and I was driving to the eagleford, Permian and Houston, I thought Austin being central would be nice until I realized it take an hour just to get out of town. I was at 2222 and Mopac. Loved the Woodrows on Burnett, I could walk there.
I’m in a good spot in Houston though, only about 3 blocks from the White Oak hike and bike trail. But the weather is awful. I do most of my mountain biking out in WTX.

Went up to St. Francisville yesterday and got in 72 with 2,400’ of gain. 140 mile week thus far, which is steep for me. Tapering down now for the Big Damn Bridge 105 mile ride up in Arkansas on the 25th. The goal is literally to finish. I realize it’ll be misery. 5K’ of climb.

No, I’m not a very good mountain biker and mostly just ride at my wife’s place out there. I use it more for climbing training and staying in shape while we’re in WTX than anything.
I knocked out 35 miserable, hot and windy miles navigating this damn trail that’s shut down in 3 spots along my normal route. The east wind today sucked balls. I really need to get up earlier and ride before the wind hits it’s mid day peak.

Raced Dirt Diggler in hendersonville, nc this morning. 5000ft of vert in 44 miles. Saw 29% on my garmin at least once and there was a mile of hard core single track to finish. That was fun on a gravel bike.
Couple min slower than my goal but happy with 11th place in a stacked masters field. Cant be too upset when George Hincapie and Christian Vande Velde are right up the road

Woah!
“best” part was the fact that it was in the last 2 miles. Legs are starting to complain and then you gotta do that..

Love West Texas, it is so calming and tranquil. Plus it is incredibly beautiful. Always stay in Alpine when I head out that way. Anyways I did the 3 sisters route on Zwift yesterday matched my sea level time (I'm at altitude now) from back in February. The fitness has come up pretty fast after a month off due to stuff out of my control.

Hit that up a lot with my wife. It's amazing what they've done over the last 10 years to the trail system. I can hit Keegan's to brays bayou to columbia to downtown to buffalo bayou to white oak and back. For good casual riding and enjoying a nice day on a bike, it's hard to beat.

I got up at 5am this morning to ride my bike 12 miles to my gym to work out and back. First time I had ridden on actual streets instead of bike trails. I tried to stick to the sidewalks for the most part, but had to ride on the street at times
How do you guys get over the fear that cars behind you are going to not see you and hit you? At 5am it wasn't a big deal since there were hardly any cars on the road, but on the way back when the sun was up there were much more cars.
Also do you guys feel like an arse when you are riding in a one lane road and blocking the cars behind you? If there was a sidewalk or place off to the side I could ride on I would but some roads I literally had no option but to ride on the street and I felt like a dick riding at 15-20 MPH when cars behind me wanted to go faster.

Ride country roads and use the Garmin radar device which shows cara approaching from behind

Yeah it’s nice. I wish they would quit screwing it up and closing sections though. I’ll be happy when it’s all reopened and I can get my 25 mile loop back.

Last month I placed an order for a custom steel mountain bike frame from a frame builder in Peru (Marino Bikes). Using sliding dropouts so I can run it single speed. I've been running the local trails without shifting giving single speed a try. Feels like more of a core workout and the totally different mindset can make a somewhat tame trail a challenge. Starting to gather parts for me build. I have a ton of takeoff parts to build up the bike. Really just need a headset stem and handlebar to build the bike. Frame probably won't be here until at least December.

For a first cycling bike (hybrid rider currently) I'm trying to choose between:
Specialized Roubaix, carbon frame, Tiagra groupset - $2600
Cervelo Caledonia 105, carbon frame, 105 groupset - $2900
There is the difference in group sets and the Caledonia seems to be built for some 'rougher' rides with option of adding fatter tires.
Roubaix has the future shock 1.5 in the front post.
To me, the question is the groupset - is the 105 worth the $300 extra? Any feedback?

Anybody on here every ride around Russellville, AR?
Going work there for a few weeks and trying to figure out if it's worth taking my bike.
