Just finished running through all 7 books in the Grishaverse. I thought they were enjoyable for the most part. The Shadow and Bone Trilogy were the weakest overall, particularly the first book, the middle of book two, and the beginning of book three.

The Six of Crows duology I had read before, and I loved them as much as the first time. Really good characters, and I can enjoy pretty much any story built around the criminal underground and heists.

The King of Scars duology was pretty good as well, though one subplot that sidelines one of the 3 main characters off on her own for the vast majority of the book didnt work for me. But everything with Nikolai and Zoya was fantastic.

Best of all, the ending really sets up an interesting future series?/duology for what comes next.

The show turned into too much of a teen romance vobe for my tastes? Is that what the books are like?

Red Sister has been pretty good thus far, definitely leans in to the young orphan / magic school type trope moreso than Lawrence's other stuff but it is really well done. Think the series has a lot of room to go into some unique direction.

Yeah, the books are generally in the YA genre so the teen romance vibes are strong, especially in the original trilogy.

The two duologies are more "adult" oriented but still carry some ya dna since most of the characters are still teenagers or early twenties.

I enjoyed the characters from the Duology better in the tv series (the like gang characters trying to pull a job).

That girl and the guy from the country which hated all the missions I really didn't like very much.

Brandon Sanderson interview scheduled on a Wheel of Time related show for the 17th. Looks like they will get into both Wheel of Time and Cosmere stuff.

It's a pretty good series. Abraham is a solid author.

Yeah, the Expanse series is better, I'd definitely read that one first. Particularly since they will be finishing it up with the last book this year.

Just wanted to say thank you. I picked this one up after reading your description of it, and it was incredible. It might very well be the best sci-fi novel I've ever read.

Just learned there is a follow-up novel that's now on the top of my list.

I love this thread!

Didn’t realize the expanse will be wrapping up this year. I finished 5 then got hooked with Mistborn/stormlight and been in that universe for most the year. Got the 6th book when I finish stormlight (on the second one).

Did yall know John Gwynne had a new book out? Book 1 of a new series. Shadow of the God's. Faithful and the fallen was good, but the sequel series was pretty average. But, so far, this new one seems to have a bit more depth to it. Norse setting with Viking culture as dominant. Im only 1/3rd through it, but so far so good.

I loved Faithful and the Fallen.
For some reason I just couldn’t get invested in the second series and only read the first book.

Might check this one out and see if it grabs me like the first series did.
