Louisiana Lawmakers OK Sports Betting Rules; Sends To Edwards

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Months after most Louisiana voters agreed to legalize sports betting, lawmakers Thursday gave final passage to rules that will allow the wagering through sports book sites, mobile apps and kiosk locations in parishes where voters supported the activity.
A 33-3 Senate vote sent the regulatory bill by Republican Senate President Page Cortez to the governor’s desk. The House earlier had voted 78-15 for the legislation. Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards is expected to sign the measure into law, paving the way for betting on sports events to begin as early as the fall.
Voters in 55 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes agreed to allow sports betting on live-action games, but lawmakers had to set the rules and the tax rates before the gambling can begin. The tax bill received final legislative passage earlier in the session.
Lawmakers are creating 20 licenses for sports book operators, with Louisiana’s casinos and racetracks given first chance to get those licenses. If those casinos and racetracks don’t seek all 20 licenses by Jan. 1, fantasy sports betting operators and video poker establishments in the parishes where sports wagering is legal will be eligible to apply.

I am reading this right, this will not allow Louisiana residence to use draftkings or fanduel right?

Fantasy sports was already passed and now we are only a short time away from using fa duel or DraftKings. This thread is on sports betting.

This doesn't seem like a lot. I'd assume all of these will be sought after by the casinos and racetracks, so does that mean the popular online/mobile sportsbooks like William Hill, DK sportsbook, Fanduel sportsbook, etc. will be left out?

So they just have to work out the tax situation with fantasy sports gambling?

frick that shitty legislature. Less people watching sports and years behind other states. They can frick themselves. I left that do nothing state for a place that is more business and economically friendly. They can take the scraps because they didn't have the foresight, like they never do.

There's no way that Draft Kings and Fan Duel will be left out. Just a matter of greasing the right palms...

“Only the 20 existing casinos – those on riverboats, at racetracks and the one on land in New Orleans – have first crack at the licenses. It’ll cost $250,000 to apply and should the applicant clear a suitability review, will have to pay $500,000 more for a five-year license. Each license will allow the casinos to hire and license two providers to handle betting online and via smart phones.”
Casino and racetracks can contract with DraftKings or FanDuel or Barstool or whoever to be their mobile operator.
Barstool is Penn National’s sports betting app. You’ll get a Barstool Sportsbook app with a Lauberge BR emblem somewhere on the page.

I wonder how awesome it would be if we actually had a free market.
This isn’t capitalism folks.

Legalized sports gambling became legal just about 3 years ago. About 1/3 of the states have some short of sports gaming.
Don't talk bullshite when you have no clue what you're talking about. You sound like an idiot who has sand in your vagina

How many years since we voted in favor of this and we still can't make bets?

It sounds way better than the deal Desantis made in Florida. Only the Seminole tribe is allowed in the business for the next 30 years. AND... we promised them a government goon squad to crack down on their rivals in card games and other legal gambling.

New gambling is always a boon to the western La cities, as they get all the Texans' action.
Keep an eye on Twin Spires/CDI. I hope they get involved and don't give FG he Arlington/Calder/Hollywood Park treatment. But if they get involved, FG should soar.

Whoever these senators and reps are who voted against, need to be voted out ASAP. Why would you vote against, religious reasons?
