I got back & forth.

Just made a chicken/rice casserole during the POLAHR VORTEX with some whole chicken thighs, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, cream of celery, a little poultry seasoning, white pepper, etc. and even chopped up a few green beans in there..

something absolutely MAGICAL occurs when the chicken juices render into the rice and you get that browned/crunchy rice around the edges that you mix back in to eat. i'm but a simple southern man but damn i could eat this every day for a year and not get tired of it.

Crawfish stew is my favorite comfort food. Serviced with some potato salad and toast to soak up the gravy.

gosh dang that looks good. Do you follow a recipe or just wing it like you said in your post?

A good venison neck roast cooked down in a dark gravy over rice is hard for me to beat. Meatball stew is another one of my favorite "i had a bad week at work so i'm getting drunk and cooking" meals on Fridays.

Those are some of my favorite things I ate from my mom, including her Mac and cheese, cornbread dressing, gumbo, red beans, casseroles. She knew how to cook but unfortunately never wrote down any recipes

My favorite cut off the deer.

Is exactly what I do with it. The only gravy I've had better is a smothered turkey neck gravy but they're close.

Mine is Fresh Sausage in a gravy, with some field peas with some garden fresh sliced cucumbers and tomatoes.

While I can get down with everything mentioned here, and am comforted by all of it, I’m going smothered hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyed peas, turnip greens and cornbread as my loosen the belt electric chair meal.

I save most of the bones from my deer/hogs and at the end of the year I made a huge batch of bone broth an can it. I use this broth to smother down the neck roasts and holy hell...it's a good gravy.
