Also it’s fricked up how patty mahomes gets lumped in as a “black qb” his dad was a black dude that played baseball, he grew up in an upper class neighborhood and all his friends are white. That dude ain’t no brotha

AND the MLB just moved to accept all Negro Baseball League stats + records under MLB all-time records.

His statement prior to last season actually seemed to be thought out quite well. He mentioned that the opportunity for youngsters to get into baseball is becoming more economically driven. He mentioned the travel ball takeover, and how that impacts the local youth league scene. It seems to be squeezing out poor kids.
He also mentioned how his HS baseball team randomly did a ‘white power’ cheer before each game...which is pretty damn weird, but whatever.
He tied in the youth baseball situation to schools, and the unequal opportunities presented within.
I can’t stand The Movement, but his reasons seem pretty sensible. MLB mentions declining participation of AA in the sport, but doesn’t do much about it. The NBA is cornering that demographic.

his principles are he is washed up and he is an attention whore so he makes a big public pronouncement when he wasnt going to be a factor for the Rockies this season anyway

I’m not dictating anything. MLB is the one that has issue with it. That’s why they’re the ones responsible for dealing with financing any project.

Who knows? That’s for them to decide. I do think entities as large as the MLB that generate that sort of cash flow should help finance the rebuilding of their own sport. After all, it’s in their best interests. That’s why there are baseball academies in Latin America. There’s plenty of talent in inner-city USA, but that talent consistently opts for football or basketball. In the CTE-football era, baseball can cash in an opportunity to attract said talent.
I know players and teams have funded some leagues, but that’s obviously not enough. It’s going to take coaches and “boots on the ground” to get the ball rolling. The days of Little League dominance are gone. Expensive baseball simply won’t attract kids from Chicago, NYC, etc.

Ah yes. The sport where a kid from Cuba or Venezuela that grew up playing with rocks and tree branches can make more money in a year than every poster in this thread combined. I'm sure we would all like to opt out from work and spend more time with our families, but there's the whole nuisance aspect of not making 70 million USD over the last 5 years.

You are right. I shouldn’t have said they don’t do much about it. The problem is, what they’re doing hasn’t worked as well as they would like.

Listened to an interview with Andre Dawson the other day and he is in that role with the Cubs, that being the role of generating interest in baseball within the black community.
And he thinks MLB is doing plenty in this regard and said so even though the folks interviewing in the podcast were nearly begging him to say the opposite.

There is only so much MLB can do, they have more AA participation in the youth level and high school but not in the majors. Mainly because those kids that talented are also talented in other sports which is where they end up devoting all of their time.
Look at LSU and how many kids play both sports, but notice they all play baseball less because football is priority #1.
