Yes, Jeopardy with Trebek is iconic. It's not Price is Right but it's somewhere close.

But is it really that big a deal who hosts?

After all, it's just a gameshow. Life moves on. Downvote away.

I think most would argue Trebek is more iconic as jeopardy host than Barker as Price is Right host. Regardless, the aforementioned two and Sayjak are easily top three of all time. I would throw in Regis Philbin or Gene Rayburn if you wanted to do a Mt. Rushmore.

That said, Jeopardy is bigger than Trebek. The casual viewer (ie, the one who watches it while waiting for the nightly news or while simmering onions) may relate more to Trebek and his warmth, but the viewers who are real fans, fans who actively compete while viewing, know that the game of Jeopardy can and will live long beyond Trebek. Which is why I have oft campaigned for a 'nobody' host, someone with respect and ties to the institution that is Jeopardy. Replacing Trebek with a celebrity caters to the casual crowd and would come with an aura of consumerism. While not necessarily a 'nobody', Ken meets the criteria for the perfect host in my eyes.

I loved Trebek, but assume I’m in the minority that thinks he was sort of a dick a lot of times. He acted like the contestants were fricking idiots at times, which is easy to do when you have the answers in front of you.

Just saw a news blurb on TV that Aaron Rodgers will guest host an episode.

From Packers website

quote:

GREEN BAY – Aaron Rodgers will check off another lifelong dream when the Packers quarterback serves as a guest host on "Jeopardy" this offseason. The show is using a series of interim hosts in place of the iconic Alex Trebek, who died in November after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Rodgers broke the news of his involvement during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" Tuesday. "I'm really excited about it. We've been talking about it for a little bit," said Rodgers during his media availability on Tuesday afternoon. "I think I may have jumped the gun a little bit so I apologize to 'Jeopardy' if they wanted to announce it, I just got so excited on the show earlier. It just went down the last couple of days, us figuring it out. It is very exciting, it's for the offseason, we'll be even more excited when that opportunity gets a little closer."
