Just picked my first fall tomato.

I planted six vines and grafted 3 suckers off of them. The grafts are about a month younger. They are all full of tomatoes, but I didn’t think they were ever going to turn.

One finally turned red this week... baseball sized. It’s an Amelia. Can’t wait!

Lucky you! I've tried multiple times with fall tomatoes and never had any luck. Bad bug infestation, too much heat and then abrupt switch to cold, etc. I have to console myself with fresh citrus at this time of year in lieu of fresh tomatoes.

My luck with fall tomatoes has more to do with when it finally gets cold enough to take the vines out. Then one year I had a true bumper crop of large, beautiful tomatoes that were just turning color when a big hail storm passed through and hung around for half an hour and beat all the plants to the ground, destroying all the tomatoes.

I've also had a few years where a sudden cold front passed through and I had to pick all the tomatoes still green and wound up frying plenty and making salsa verde with a lot of them, plus gave some away.

I've never had an issue with insects in the fall with my tomatoes, but they do like to eat some leafy greens like Kale, Swiss Chard and Spinach.

Yeah, I’ll pick them all if a freeze threatens.

I do have greens, lettuces, and carrots.

I've got several varieties of leaf lettuces, kale, Swiss Chard, sugar snap peas, Georgia collards, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages in green and red/purple, onions, beets and garlic all going right now.

My broccoli are close to picking time, cabbage heads are forming now, but are still pretty small, sugar snaps are being picked to use in stir fry and salads, collards have been picked twice already and cooked down with plenty more getting ready for picking.

My lettuces, kale and chard had to be planted a second time when a warm spell knocked down the seedlings, but are doing well now, but nowhere near ready to pick any.

I didn’t do well last year. Mainly because we had a freak freeze come through beginning of November. But I’m getting a decent fall crop. Bush Champion II and Beefmasters. Mostly BCII’s so far. I’m also battling worms. I think I’m gonna get one of those UV lights to find them at night.

So jealous. I planted 8 plants and squirrels dug them all up except one when they were about 8 inches tall. The one has a single tomato on it right now that's about the size of a ping pong ball.

That's excellent. Fresh "maters" for Thanksgiving will go well on the menu.

I failed to put any tomato plants in this year with summer running into damn near mid October here in N.O. with high temperatures.

Had to replant quite a few salad greens because of the late heat.

I got lazy and planted my tomatoes late. There's a high probability that we'll have fried green tomatoes for Thanksgiving.

I have a couple volunteers coming up now amid my pumpkin plants. I may get a few. We shall see.

Usually, I plant tomatoes around Valentines Day. They are toast by July 4th. I plant again around school start and enjoy fall tomatoes.

Picked 2 yesterday, made 4 for the week. All about the size of a tennis ball. Got another dozen or so left to pick.

Not sure what’s eating the leaves on my plants. But I’ve got one raised bed that looks like it got hit with a defoliant. Started with the peppers then cabbage and now they’ve moved to my potatoes.

I've got about 6-7 lbs of Roma's not quite ready to pick. I may have to pick some early and let ripen on the counter. I have 4 cherokee purples that i planted too late and not sure if they will make it or not. All the tomatoes on them are about the size of a golf ball. I'm really hoping i get to try at least one as i heard they were delicious.
