Great news about the special but I wonder if this means we are not gonna get a new season? Usually it starts around this time of year.

It's a "Special" because it is an hour long IMO. The rest of the season will follow as usual. Matt and Trey would never pass up an election year season, and add on all the bonus material with everything else going on.

The peak was Seasons 5-11. Not a stinker in the bunch.

The show was at it's peak around the mid to late 00's. That being said it still turns out some really good episodes. Still not afraid to piss anyone off after all this time

I think the last 3 seasons have been great overall. They went through a lull for me starting sometime in the late 00's to the early 10's. There were some great episodes but were much more hit or miss for me.
