That’s fine. We’re replacing a ton on both sides of the ball, under center, and on the sidelines.

Isn't that actually better for motivational purposes? If everyone said LSU is expected to be great and not miss a beat, then I'd be worried.

I've followed him for years.
He weights too much on returning starters.
His overall ability to predict winners has declined in recent years.
How did he do last year with his predictions for LSU?
Even after he had a chance to see what was happening early on.

Well he's not necessarily wrong. His whole schtick on comparing teams year over year is based on returning starters and upperclassman. He was very bullish on LSU heading into 2003 and 2019. Make sense he would be down on LSU this year.

That is absurd. We have guys who started a lot of football games, but for many different reasons did not start last year. We are fine in the experience department. Actually MUCH better than other teams who lost as many "starters" as we did. Plus we played extremely deep and young at times last year.

He picked LSU to finish 3rd overall in the SEC and go to the Sugar Bowl to play Oklahoma. He picked LSU to finish 2nd in the West behind Alabama which (and I know this may come as a bit of a surprise if we view things without the benefit of hindsight) had just beaten LSU 8 straight times. The last game being a 29-0 beat down in Tiger Stadium where LSU's OC had just pitched his second goose egg in as many tries against Alabama.
He was pretty damn reasonable if you ask me. It would have been nothing but blind, baseless optimism to pick LSU to win, on the road, at Alabama BEFORE the season started.

Nor did he in 2019. Picked Joe Burrow as the 6th best SEC quarterback going into the season.
