Have a few questions for those that may have one of these services currently. When it comes to picture quality which service is the better choice? Also, is the Hopper 3 worth enough to warrant going with Dish if DirectTV has a much better picture quality? Currently have ATT U-verse but I’m not satisfied with their lack of tech updates coming as they are phasing out this service. Not looking to become someone that uses a streaming option, just want some opinions on these 2. Thanks.

I have had both and currently have directv. Picture quality isn’t much different, maybe a little better on Directv. Only reason I switched is bc we have our cell phones with AT&T so we bundled it and it came out cheaper for more channels than dish. Hopper might be a little better but I’m happy with the genie and wireless boxes. I have no issues with either service. I would say go with whoever gives you the best deal.

I had DirecTV and loved it - then AT&T bought them and it went to shite. The technology might be a little better, but it’s a pain in the arse to get someone on the phone - and once you do, they are in a foreign country or outright ignorant. Same as the experience when calling AT&T for wireless support.

We switched to Dish and have not had near the issues. Some small hiccups here and there, but the technicians have always arrived when they said and seem to be knowledgeable.

I had Dish for 2 years and had the hopper 3. Nothing special about it. No problems with service other than it going out in the rain. I switched to YouTube tv after they hiked up my rates. Picture on YouTube tv is actually better than dish

I had Directv for 18 years before switching to Dish. Directv kept raising the rates more and more. Plus I got an offer from Dish for a $300 gift card if I switched. AT&T having control of Directv is a huge difference in how it use to be. I have Hopper 3 plus a Joey 3 for my house and a Wally for my RV.

I've had Dish for about 20 years. Love that their customer service/tech support is in the US. Very happy with the Hopper 3. I do wish there were more apps available on the Joey.

The picture quality of Directv is better. Dish is not bad, but Directv is better.

The Hopper 3 to me is much better than the Directv receiver. It is faster and you can save much more on the hard drive. Also, I don't see Directv upgrading any time soon.

I had both over the years and dish has better equipment. I’d say directv quality on sd channels is slightly better. Dish is cheaper and they have done a good job integrating using an antenna to get the locals into the equipment.

I think dish is a better run company and will prob buy directv out in the near future.

I've been a Dish customer for probably 25yrs and this is probably my last couple of months of me being one of their customers. I was on a loyal customer program where I had Dish everything for the price of the Dish 250 package. Then one day my bill jumped to full price, so I called and was told they were not going to honor that any more. So I told them to turn my shite off and give me the address to send my equipment to. Needless to say they dropped my bill back down, but only for 6 months. So every 6 months I would have to call a bitch because my bill would go back up and that shite gets old. So now I'm to the point I'm switching over to streaming everything. I always said if a company would come out with a true a-la-carte package they would put a hurting on a lot of these companies.

With that being said my brother has DirectTV and from what I can tell Dish has better equipment.

Dish may go bankrupt also, but will take much longer.

Dish may actually merge with DirecTV down the line. Dish is about to start dipping their toes in the 5G waters. They have a respectable amount of spectrum that is sitting unused and ready to be deployed.

They have tried to merge before, and the FTC blocked it. They consider people in rural America as having 2 options now, and a merger would create a monopoly. The truth is, a merged company can't price gauge rural customers because they offer the same price to places where cable is offered.

They both suck. If you're in an urban area, get direct.

I've not had DirectTV, but have had Dish for 20 years. Other than what you get with satellite (rainy/cloudy intereference), it's been fine. I like the new hopper, very easy to use and my other joey's never lose connection.

My only complaint is that when you switch over to a new time every 30 minutes (like 7:30pm to 8:00pm, the guide seems to lag behind and at 8:01pm as I'm scrolling channels and looking at the guide at the top of the page, it's still showing the 7:30pm show unless I sit on the channel a minute and then it refreshes. That's a bit annoying.

If y’all care to know I ended up going with DirectTV. Liked that they still have NFLN, a lot of channels for Majors (Golf) and more 4K content then anyone. Got the 3rd highest package w/ 3 receivers for $93 per month. Paying $24.99/ month for ATT Fiber 1gb Internet (thanks to $15 off military discount w/ wireless.). All in for $117.99/month, which is less then I was paying for UVerse w/ Internet. Hope I don’t regret getting this service haha.
