Covid related Texas travel question....

We are scheduled to go to Houston for a couple of days next weekend but it seems they are having a spike in cases. I have read reports that Houston is proposing another lockdown of sorts to slow the spread. We were going to go to the zoo, Herman Park, museum, and a few restaurants. We still have time to change our travel plans so do you think our time would be better spent with a weekend in the New Orleans area?

I could be wrong, but I don't think we are shutting back down anytime soon. It's mostly what Dora the Explorer (Lina Hidalgo) has been spouting lately. Mostly, people here haven't listened to her much at all. Sort of like a whiny child. Yes, cases have increased. But I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Houston isn’t shutting back down.
Places will shutdown if they have an employee tests positive (some have), but Dora the Explorer isn’t walking anything back in this town.

I could see Texas and Florida being shut down by July. Bigger question is why would you want to go to a place spiking in corona cases when you could go somewhere else where there’s no fear of corona virus? There’s plenty of states with plenty to do that haven’t started spiking with cases again

We took a vacation to Florida 2 weeks ago so we just wanted to get away and go somewhere for Father’s Day and my birthday. Not much to do in Lake Charles!

Whole states with Republican Governors won't shut down. The Florida Panhandle and most of Texas still have few cases. Maybe hotspots.

Houston isn’t shutting down... The Judge and Mayor are fear mongering. Texas Medical center has come out and said they have plenty of ICU beds available and Abbott has already said he isn’t slowing the Texas reopening plans and his EO supersedes any local order.

There is no spike. They are just doing more testing. Restaurants are now at 75%
