The biggest impact, IMO, is that it normalized war.

We have kids graduating college who have never known a U.S. that wasn't at war.

We have soldiers in the military who have never known a time when we weren't at war.

The cultural effects of normalizing war could end up being worse than the direct effects because it'll make it that much more difficult to end it.

Yeah, and we’ve lost about 5,000 troops. We lost 10 times that in Vietnam and 6 or 7 times that in Korea.

You're forgetting the trillions of our tax dollars spent there. Trillions spent for literally nothing positive in the long run.

We've spent nearly 7 trillion in the mideast on Afghanistan and Iraq.

We spent 170 billion in Vietnam which would be 1 trillion in today's dollars.

We spent 30 billion in Korea which would be 276 billion in today's dollars.

It's the most expensive and catastrophic foreign policy blunder in American history.

quote:
I have no problem calling it a mistake, but “one of the most catastrophic foreign policy blunders in American history.”? Come on.

It completely destabilized the mideast and led to the rise of ISIS and the taliban is still around and just forced the United States into a "peace deal" just to get out.

It also led to disastrous involvement in Syria and Africa as well.

The layers of insanity brought on by this era of permanent warfare are as seemingly infinite as the print-on-demand money that funds it.

We are paying for this massive military Empire partly because China is buying our debt.

We in turn are able to buy cheap masks and hand sanitizers that are made in China....to wear during a China-induced virus?

It is a surreal twisted joke.

Yet someday that debt bill will be due and the punchline ain’t going to be too funny.

The only reason this didn't happen

I don’t believe given the same situation the response would be similar today.

You’d have some loud purple hair calling him racist, some soy boy being triggered by the thought of military action, and AOC-Cups bitching about why we aren’t canceling rent.
was W and the dems were on the same damned team. they had some fake partisan crap but not like you see against Trump.

I pray there’s not a war in the next 5 years. Trump would be casted as a war monger and deranged. Probably try to impeach him or have a coup to take him out. Oh wait again

You got that right. Hillary and Biden both voted for the Iraq War while Obama campaigned on ending the Iraq War....and gave us socialized medicine instead.

Hey look, another thread full of people who disown Dubya and claim to have always known better.

Just can’t be one of the cool kids nowadays if you don’t dogpile on him. Most of y’all will probably do the same thing to Trump in 10 years if the wind starts blowing that way.

This is intentional.

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Ignorance is strength.

It is due to tribalism, identity politics, and victim culture >>>> patriotism.

Thanks Obama.

Either that or the beautiful pitch he threw to open the World Series. The media unanimously agreed that it was reckless for him to even attened a big event and he went out and threw the heat. That was great for the nation's morale too.

There’s no doubt in my mind that awful woman and her squad would find a way to squeeze communism out of that tragedy and blame white people for good measure.

We are just emerging from a beta-test of the coming tyranny in which a coterie of unelected and unaccountable technocrats in the administrative state exert near total dominion over our God-bestowed liberties. Thankfully, more and more citizens are awakening from their slumber and recognize this war on liberty for what it is.

It is abundantly clear to anyone who has independence of mind what side of the equation George Bush aligns with in this war. Yet we still have supposed “conservatives” who believe Bush was a good President because he gave a speech on a pile of smoking rubble with a bullhorn.

As much as it pains me to say it, whatever future horrors awaits us was probably sealed when Bush won re-election in 2004. Tragically, it is our children’s children who will pay the cost for this folly.

Say what you want about W, but that moment was an all-timer. I watched it live and still get goosebumps watching it now.

so if he had said "i hear you and the people that knocked down these buildings are going to hear from all of us soon!.....we're going to fight a war with our hands tied behind our back, to win hearts and minds, we'll pump billions of dollars into the country, they'll still hate us and in 20 years who ever is president will pull us out with our tail between our legs!"

because that was the plan, bush even articulated as much, "this war will out last my presidency".

a good president would have gone curtis leMay on their arse and they would have handed over bin laden and this thing would have been over 20 years ago.

2008 was a dark year in American history. We will never be truly united again.

Well, you can thank Bush for Obama. Bush delivered that stooge to our doorstep.
