one, with home assistant I dont have to move my hub to add devices LOL
that's so funny when I just told you everything else paired just fine except the door locks which go into low power mode when not paired.

How many schlage locks have you connected to HA?

I have the schlage zwave lock. In HA I had to set up a hex security code then put the lock in pairing mode. It paired through my other zwave devices.

Has anyone set up home assistant on a synology NAS? I was following a tutorial by the bearded tinkerer but it looks like something just changed literally a few days ago and no I have to do something else. I think it has to do with home assistant core or something. I guess I have to look into that. I figure if my NAS is on all the time anyway, that might as well control my home assistant.

Your pool pump didn't work either...

I have a kwikset paired (securely), no problem and no moving the hub.

I love how defensive you get even when you are complaining about your own system sucking.

I remembered today I have an old Chromebook, Asus C201P (it's a pathetic little thing my wife used to browse Facebook in the evenings) sitting in my closet.. just need to find the charger. Hope I cam find the charger and wipe it to install HA and that gives me decent performance. It runs ChromeOS pretty slowly though (which is why we got a new Chromebook) so my hopes aren't too high.

ETA

Found the charger. It runs ChromeOS ok but sluggish when doing anything besides navigating the OS.

Gonna put Ubuntu on it I think. That seems to be the standard for HA people.

ETA2

Going with LXDE for desktop since it's lighter than Unity and seems to work with ARM processors

ETA3

Argh, wireless drivers. Gonna have to do some digging.

Also I don't like using Crouton to dual-boot.. this little machine doesn't have the horsepower to do that and run HA. Going to have to sink my teeth into Libreboot and see if i can figure out how to do that without bricking the thing

This is a great snapshot into learning linux

I bought an old Lenovo I7 desktop off of craigslist a couple of months ago and put Xpenology on it (hacked Synology OS). I'm using it as a Plex server, and installed Home Assistant on it. I don't remember which tutorial I followed, but set it up in a Docker container. Haven't had any issues with it, but haven't really done much with it either.

As if they thought people were gonna be ok with this. Idiots. Now they're going to lose customers anyway.

I'm still going to find a good solution. I've determined that my Chromebook is not the answer

Why are you doing all that. HA isn't resource hungry. People run it on a raspberry pi. Read about running HA via proxmox. I bought a 100 dollar mini pc on ebay, installed proxmox. Then ran a single script for Hass.io install.

I thought it'd be easy then ran into the ARM processor and all and fell down the rabbit hole. Woke up the next day and said... Nah, I'd rather spend $100 than frick with all that for any longer.
