Dropping off package with UPS driver vs taking it in store

Today I needed to return an Amazon item and was about to head to the UPS store to drop it off. Well a UPS man was delivering packages nearby on my block and I asked him if he takes pick ups and he said yes. So I left it with him. We do this at our work all the time but It kind of dawned on me I don't have a receipt or anything proving it's in their system. So if he wanted to take it there's nothing really proving I let it in his care. I still haven't received any update that it was scanned into their system which I normally do immediately when I drop it off at stores. What are the odds I'm fricked and got scammed or if I leave it with the truck driver will it not get scanned into the system until later?

A ups driver isn’t risking his job by stealing your amazon package. I’ve done this many times and never had a problem.

What about in New Orleans where there are no rules or accountability ever?

Just track it later, or tomorrow. Sometimes it takes a day to update. that’s all you need. Amazon has that saved.

The driver doesn't scan the package at pick up. It gets scanned when he gets back to his hub and drops off. Did you write down the tracking # that was on the return label?

this ^^^^^^
i was working in my front yard all day long friday and ups claims they delivered my package and handed it to the recipient. not only did ups not deliver on my street that day, no other delivery service came down my street that day.
ups is the worst and i will try to request any other delivery service even if it costs me more
now i have to fight to get a refund which i will lose since the driver lied and scanned my package as delivered before stealing it for himself. the seller now has a digital receipt saying i got the package i never received so i know they will deny my claim as i have zero proof the ups guy/gal stole my package

Does UPS have drop boxes like Fed Ex?

Yeah I have it so I can see what kind of movement it will have.

You will when they take it off the truck.
