Don't need for gaming. Just need to word process with Windows and internet. Don't want to spend a lot. Suggestions?

I had been shopping for a new one the past month. I couldn't make up my mind then narrowed it down and decided on an HP. A week ago today I went to Best Buy to purchase. Sales guy said they were out. Looked online - out. He told me there has been a serious run on laptops since so many kids are at home and adults working from home.
You may have to settle for something that's not first choice.
I agree with the above poster, however, anything with 8GB Ram and SSD should be fine. I don't want to go less than 256GB Memory but 128GB will do you just fine.

I’d get a dell xps from their outlet. Will be a refurb, open box, or even new previous gen model.

Agreed, though OP specified Windows....

Good moves by Apple lately giving the people what they want with the Air and 16inch Pro. Hard to see who the market is for the base MBP 13 at this point (looks like it'll be phased out).

Just bought this Acer Aspire 5 laptop for my kids for their new homeschool life. You can get a power 10th generation i5 and 256SSD and 8 GB or ram for 600 bucks. I bought a 16GB ram stick for 80 bucks to upgrade to 20.

I second this. Bought a new Latitude 7390 from the outlet and got a great price. Not as sexy as the XPS but built like a tank and has a 3 year warranty.

One downside is it may take some time for what you want to show up on the website for purchase.

I'd say Intel i5.

What's wrong with the old one?

You could just install Linux Mint if the old one doesn't have hardware issues.
