Anyone ever had any problems from neighbors due to riding dirt bikes or ATVs on your own private land? I'm looking into moving onto a big piece of land in the near future (approximately 20-30 acres), and I'd want to build a motocross track for my kid/grandkids. It wouldn't be open to anyone else, so there would be a maximum of around 4 people riding on any given day, and probably only a few days per month. I'm just wondering if any of you who ride on their own land have ever had any noise complaints from neighbors - is this an issue, or do country folk generally have the attitude that you can do whatever you want on your own land? One piece of land I'm looking at in Folsom is across the street from Global Wildlife, so I'm particularly concerned about that.

Never.

We had a neighbor move in a few years back who called the cops because he didn't like gunshots.

Then the sheriff.

Sheriff told him to move.

Muffler for play riding and practice, no neighbor problems. Go to race track for race day muffler off, make as much noise as you want.

I helped run a gun club that had been in same location for 60+yrs. Someone moves in 3/4 mi away and complains to councilor, gun club, firearms officer etc. Our advice was get a better realtor next time that will tell you there is a gun club in the area.
If there are local bylaws check them to see if you have noise restrictions, e.g., noise must be lower than XX dB after 7pm etc

Only time we get complaints is when we fire off a few hundred rounds. Motorbikes, ATV's, etc. don't bother anyone in the country.

I am on the other side of this issue from you. Our neighbor at my hunting place is an idiot (among other things) And our property wraps around his on three sides. So he has a disproportionate influence on us. His kids race dirt bikes and their track is literally along the fence that makes up the property line. In the afternoons after school (and especially during Christmas break when they aren't in school) they race around the property lines every afternoon.

They will spook deer out of 3 or 4 food plots at 5 pm in the peak of the rut, during Christmas, when we have family in town, the busiest/best days of the year. Even food plots that are 200-300 yards from the line get cleaned out.

Honestly, I think it is inconsiderate and rude. I don't care what they do on their property. But when it takes away from my ability to enjoy mine, then it becomes an issue.

If they would just refrain from late afternoon runs along the property line during peak deer season days, it woould be enough. But they don't. I am as accomodating a neighbor as I can be. A couple of times a year they ask me to move equipment through my property to get to the road. And I am always gracious. Same if they shoot a deer that runs onto our property. No problem. I just wish they would extend me some degree of courtesy.

If you anticipate problems with that one tract, maybe you should consider something else. Also, it might be helpful to talk to the neighbor and see if they will have a problem with it. Unless there are applicable noise ordinances, you probably don't have to worry anything, but the neighborly thing to do would be to talk to the neighbor and try to head off any problems before they arise. It may not be an issue for them.
