Looks like the pressure switch on the washer malfunctioned. Walked in the kitchen with an inch of water covering the kitchen floor. The machine is easily fixed, but I'm concerned with the floors.

The floors are that cheap glued vinyl tile. Should I contact my home insurance and see if it's something that would be covered if they need to be replaced?

That's a lot of water. If you're going to use your deductible anyway, might as well get new floors as a result and get what you want, not what the previous tenant had.

File a homeowners claim, you need a mitigation company

You need to make sure it’s dry OP. Get some fans and dehumidifiers going now. Likely not a huge deal, but you absolutely don’t want to risk this.

I think it would be easily over your deductible, I’d contact your insurance for sure unless you want to do it on your own cash.

Same thing happened to my house in December and ruined a bunch of mid-grade laminate. Went through insurance and I feel what they gave us was pretty fair. Picking out new floors is a whole other thing. More choices than ever.

The main thing is to watch your renewal for a claim surcharge since it's not a cat claim.

You should inform the house owner soon. He will solve the problem.

I'm going through this right now. We had a leak in the line going to the refrigerator. We were out of town and found it Sunday when we got back. We're having to get the wood floors and cabinets ripped out in our kitchen, dining room, den and entry hall. Our adjuster from State Farm has been less than desirable, filed the claim January 20...still no number on what we're getting from State Farm. We're remodeling the kitchen since the house is going to be torn up right now anyway

Get a dehumidifier up and running in there today. Leave it running 24/7. Have a moisture meter?

We had 13 industrial strength fans and 2 dehumidifiers from Servicemaster for 8 days after our leaks
