When you fly in Recruits on officials from California, etc, and pay for I think up to 3 family members (I think), that can get into some serious dollars.
They would have to be flying a lot of those kids in on private jets to account for that much money.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Throwing money at stuff doesn’t always translate to success. If spending money equaled winning Texas would actually be back.

This board’s obsession with Georgia’s recruiting is strange. Yes, we know they spend a lot of money and get good recruits. However they do not win the big games so it really is irrelevant.

I’m thinking Woodward is going to increase the recruiting budget.
He did say that the guaranteed amount of money the football program was giving the school every year would no longer be guaranteed.

We are not talking about the fiscal federal budget here. We are talking about LSU football and if we have a couple of bad seasons in a row, then we could conceivably quickly fall behind very fast and then have to play catchup. As staying in line with our competition will deter us from falling behind our competition and having to play catchup.
Indeed, it's very important to not only keep our recruiting budget in line with our competition but also to keep our football facilities in line with our competition.

Sounds like we need to step it up. Why aren’t we spending that much. Clearly the results back up it’s worth it

247 sports or ESPN recruiting class rankings don’t win championships. How much difference in talent do you really think there is between the number 5 and number 1 class? Is it worth spending an extra couple million just to say we got the number 1 recruiting class according to some media outlets?
It does matter, though. Even though it’s very hard to win a NC, I believe without a doubt our staff could take UGA’s current roster and win the NC with them next season. Heck, they may do it again with our roster.

Recruiting class rankings over the past 5 years:
LSU- 2, 7, 15, 5, 4
Clemson- 11, 16, 7, 10, 3
Bama- 1, 1, 5, 1, 2
UGA- 6, 3, 1, 2, 1
National Championships won over the same period of time:
LSU-1
Clemson-2
Bama-1
UGA-0
Money spent in 2019 on recruiting
UGA-2.6 mil
Bama- 2.3 mil
Tennessee- 2 mil
Texas- 1.8 mil
Clemson- 1.79 mil
Aggy- 1.71 mil
Florida State- 1.59 mil
Michigan- 1.39 mil
Penn State- 1.36 mil
LSU- 1.28 mil
I believe in spending money to stay competitive, especially in recruiting, but the best way to do that is to spend money on coaches and facilities not just “recruiting”. That 2 million could go towards facilities and coaches who can recruit. That would have a far greater impact on recruiting.
As for the data above, there are a lot of schools that spend more money than us and are not even close to being as successful as us. Notice that Ohio State isn’t even in the top 10 spending list and they pull some of the best talent every year.
Clemson has the worst recruiting classes out of those 4 teams, but has the most NCs. You may claim that it’s because of their weak schedule, but they had to beat Bama for both of those NCs. The same Bama that recruits way better than Clemson does according to the rankings.

I’m not saying recruiting doesn’t matter, I’m saying we don’t need to match or exceed UGA’s recruiting budget to have success. We could use the money for facilities improvements or adding coaches that are talented recruiters to the staff etc. There are other things that the money could be spent on that will have a greater impact on recruiting than just the recruiting budget.

Well, what are they spending on recruiting analysts to evaluate HS prospects all over the country. LSU has analyst that break down other teams, I would suspect that Kirby has Recruiting analyst whose job is to break down every HS player that starts the season in ESPN, Rivals and 247 top 300 and follow their progress week in and week out. You hire 4 analyst at 100K + a year and you are talking > 400K in just recruiting analyst.

would seem Hawaii would have to spend the most in recruiting just based off flying people in.
either that or they use local kids.
They use local.

Bottom line is that we need to be spending more (formally) on recruiting. At least match Georgia's budget in light of our recent success and revenue stream.

And we spanked that arse twice.

Every team has a bag men. Let’s not be naive. But we do need to spend more officially. Spend more on our staff to do stuff officially
