All that money and talent and they still can’t win a NC.

Based on their performance it seems like they just grab at 5 stars without looking for who is a good fit for their system.

Justin Fields is a perfect example of that. Who in their right mind brings Justin Fields in and puts him under center. The guy doesn’t fit the scheme, didn’t win the starting job and as a result transfers.

UGA can keep wasting their money, grabbing the top recruits that don’t fit their scheme and losing to the SEC west winner in the SEC championship game for all I care.

In all honesty, there's nothing Kirby is doing that we aren't "off the books"

With as much money as the football program is taking in annually we should be right there with UGA on recruiting expenditures

And we made ALOT more $$$ this year by playing in 3 extra BIG TIME games.

Georgia ... where 5 star recruits go to dream about national championships.

That budget will go down tremendously if Kirby doesn’t win a national championship soon.

Is this the thread where LSU fans pretend LSU isn’t paying recruits under the table?

No. Just like we don’t pretend we don’t pay your mother for going under the table.

Saw another article the other day and it said UGA spent somewhere like $3.7 million dollars on recruiting this past year.

LSU definitely needs to very significantly increase its recruiting budget if it hopes to compete with the big boys.

Meanwhile, no one knows how much Nick Saban spends cause it is not disclosed, but my guess is it is significantly more than UGA.

We pulled the number 5 class last year and the number 4 class this year. We’re doing pretty well. I’d say we’re getting way more bang for our buck than UGA is. The talent they’re pulling isn’t really translating to championship success on the field.

If we can continue to have the same success with the money we are spending then why would we spend more?

If the UGA Athletic Director was intelligent, he'd hire a coach who can actually develop talent and then use some of that money they are throwing away on recruiting to partially compensate for that far better head coach. They would be way ahead of the game if they did that.

To beat the UGA's, the Alabama's, and the Clemson's in recruiting.

247 sports or ESPN recruiting class rankings don’t win championships. How much difference in talent do you really think there is between the number 5 and number 1 class? Is it worth spending an extra couple million just to say we got the number 1 recruiting class according to some media outlets?

To guard against this past season being a 1 off. Sustained success requires a commitment of money and resources and an efficient/effective utilization of the two.

It will likely take another season or two of being a playoff contender before we find ourselves being top 1 or 2 in the SEC in recruiting. We need to be able to attract and consistently recruit elite OL, DL and QBs. We hit pretty consistently for the other positions.

How do you know? It's definitely worthwhile to investigate, to find out what they are spending on what. But bottom line, you have no idea if we are actually falling behind. They could be dumping a shite ton of expenses into recruiting that we account for somewhere else. You need an apples to apples comparison of expenses.

I’m on board with that. I just don’t think it requires spending more than twice of what we spend now on recruiting to continue to compete.

I never would have suggested it if I didn't think it was worth it.

Exactly! I think if we’re pulling top 5 to top 10 recruiting classes with what we currently spend and it would be better to invest in player development whether it be coaching or technology. The 5 star guys are great to have, but it’s really the development of the 4 and 3 star guys that makes the difference.
