I have always wanted to check it out but heard it is fairly difficult/expensive to get there. Anyone been?

No, but I've looked and would like to seriously consider it at some point. Most appealing options I've found are photography workshops/expeditions/cruises. They're expensive as you'd expect.

I know LSU Russian went.

And it's definitely expensive.

I haven't been but I'm looking hard at doing it in December. It's a bucket list trip for me. I'm looking at ships that also visit the Falklands and South Georgia. Definitely not cheap, figure on $15k to $20k for a solo trip, including air fare to Ushuaia. You can knock the price down some by sharing a four person cabin, taking a sailing date with a good discount, or doing a shorter sailing. $10k is probably the minimum.

I'd be down with this.

Celebrity is a good cruise line and that price seems excellent. I think I'll probably go with a group that specializes in nature tours but there is nothing wrong with that Celebrity cruise.

Not yet. The wife and I are working on it now. Our goal is to be there in 2022. We are likely going with SilverSea Antarctic Cruise

We have spoken to several folks at the company about making the trip and hope to book soon. The sooner you book, the better. Also, this SilverSeas is under the Royal Caribbean brand. We found that we’d save more money by taking a Royal Caribbean cruise and actually booking it on the ship at the “next cruise” desk. Saves about 8 grand that way. We were looking at the 15 day and got them to 38k including airfare.

The reason we are going with them over Nat Geo is luxury. They’ve got the same naturalists and scientists on board but it seems to be a nicer ship.

Yeah. That's the one I found when doing a google search. I'd love to know why it's 4x more than the other that I mentioned. I'm sure there is a reason, but I really haven't investigated beyond a quick Internet search.

From what I gather: Small luxury ship. 150 passengers total. Butlers on board. Lots of scientists & naturalists. You go onto land in groups on 6. They outfit you with all your gear.

I gather that this is more like the Ritz and some of the other ships were more like a holiday inn. Just depends on how you want to see it.

To each his own, but I don’t do well in the cold.

Have you done the Galapagos?

Silversea is supposed to be the most luxurious out of all the cruise lines.
