Advice on BR traffic tomorrow?

We are driving from central Florida just north of Tampa to Lafayette, which means we go through BR, which is often congested.
Long time since I drove through on a game day. At my age, I should avoid night driving. If we approach BR around 4:00 from the west, what should I expect?
What if I aim for game time? Does it clear up? Traveling with a Great Dane, so stopping is not easy.
Thanks for any advice.

Traffic shouldn’t be too bad, our fans won’t show up until right before the game

You don't have to go through BR. Take Hwy 90 (Houma/Boutte exit) out of Nola to Lft. No traffic.

Stopping will be easy because that is what you will be doing - stopping in the traffic jam from split to bridge

I live six hours from the Florida/Alabama line. Getting to BR by 4:00 pm from my house is pushing it.

I've never done it, but it seems like traffic at game time would be minimal...

Thank you. Long time since I went through Houma. But that is great advice. Much appreciated.

Might not be bad at all. But I’ve found that EBRPD can turn a fender bender into 6-1/2 miles of bumper to bumper traffic for 3 hours.
Might not be a bad idea in Slidell to go south to Nola and go through Houma to get to Lafayette’s

this times a 1,000 … that way you bypass BR football game traffic, and you avoid any 18-wheeler fires and backed up traffic on the Basin Bridge. Approximately 2 hours from the Boutte 310 exit to Laffy
edit: OP based on google maps, here is the 411 travel info
Spring Hill, FL to Lafayette … 10:30 hrs / 700 miles taking I-10 to Hammond (I-12) and going thru BR
… 10:45 - 11:00 hrs / 735 miles going I-10 to NOLA (Hwy 90) to LAF.
right now there are 10.5 hours of daylight. Leave before sunrise or possibly earlier based on these numbers. It gets dark in LAF at 5:15-5:30'ish

Get there early. That's best advice I can give you. If u plan 4 hours in advance out of town. Good luck finding a good parking spot for free.

Speed trap in Boute right as you get off the overpass, Watch your speed or contribute to the local economy.

I was stuck on the basin bridge so long once i got drunk and sobered up by the time traffic moved. 5 hours. Also had to use the bathroom which was a low point in my life
I get anxiety every time i get to it

Traffic will be worse if you leave at halftime

yuuup, police always running radar between Boutte, Paradis, and Des Allemands. Definitely observe the speed limits

Thanks again to all.
Driven the route over 100 times, but never on a football game day. Drove once with one stop, but was far younger.
I’m following advice to go through Houma and leave home early.

If you don’t get to BR until 4 you’re going to miss the opening kickoff. Give yourself 3 hours to get through traffic, park, walk to the stadium, get through the gate, and get to your seat.
