I have more than a handful of fence boards that need replacing. Circular saw vs. reciprocating saw?

Note, I don’t mind spending more for a circular saw, however it won’t get much use after this. Circular = straight lines? Easier to cut? Or can reciprocating accomplish what I want by using a guide?

Looking at cordless options. I own all Milwaukee and have batteries already ready to go.

Circular saw. Just buy a cheap one. Will be 10x faster and clean cuts.

This is one saw everyone should have even if it is not used often.

Circular saw will be much faster op. Battery powered circular saw for projects like fences that don’t need exact cuts is the tits.

Are you needing to cut them to different lengths? Hopefully you aren't needing to cut them to narrower widths. That's a pain in the arse without a table saw.

Circular saw is the choice. I'd get the cordless Milwaukee. I don't have Milwaukee but I do have a cordless saw (and a corded) and for quick jobs, especially having to move around, it is very convenient.

Circular saw. Cuts will be cleaner and you'll complete the job faster.

Circular saw, use a speed square as a cutting guide.

Very surprised no one has asked, what type of fence and what boards are you cutting?

Yeah, I'm confused here? Why do you need a saw to replace fence boards? Pry them off (better yet, if screws were used to install them, unscrew them) then install new boards.

Because some folks prefer the look of uniform picket height regardless of the terrain the fence is running on.

Rent 1 from Home Depot if you don't think it will be used much. Probably about $20 for a day.

My lord you can buy a cheap one at Harbor Freight for $30 or a decent one at Home Depot for under $50.

But if the OP already owns a reciprocating saw then it will do fine for just a few cuts.

Cut the bottom of the board which won’t show if your hand gets a bit shaky.

Correct.

Nope.

I ended up ordering the Milwaukee brand. Everything I have is Milwaukee, so I figure I would stay in the family (especially when dealing with batteries). Paid $160 at Amazon and expected in on Wednesday.

Worx makes a little hand held 4" circular saw that is the bomb. You will use it a lot instead of a reciprocating saw.
